Our area has pretty much shut down for a few hours today. The President was scheduled to be in The Smoky Mountains today for Earth Day. The weather became terrible here and they couldn't land for over 45 minutes. There were so many lightening strikes in the mountains they ended up doing his speech at the airport, in a hangar, for shelter I suppose.
He has been to east tn many times. It just feels weird when they have to shut down the roads (and all access roads) for the motorcade. And we live about 6 or 7 minutes from the airport. Not good for an IC patient!:) I get to see airforce one when it takes off.
A couple years ago I had to go to Knoxville for a uro appointment and the nurses said there were snipers on rooftops for protection. So next time a president is in town, I'll stay home.
But it's pretty neat stuff. :)

I agree that is pretty neat stuff! We never get anything like that where I live, here in Northern Michigan, lol. Even when Wurtsmith AFB was open, nothing to have any pomp and circumstance for....boo.

Hugs,
Tracey :)

It IS pretty neat stuff... can be inconvenient, but it's also pretty cool :) The President came to Memphis a few months ago, and all kinds of roads and things were closed!

Sorry you got the lightning -- we had that this morning at around 5am; severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for our area TWICE and my weather radio kept me up between 5 and 6am with its little siren :( But it's all gone now and we have such a pretty day now! :)

Hi seeing that huge plane is so neat. We live near Barksdale AFB. Well I now live 45 min south, but my mom still lives there next to the base. Anyways after 9/11 they flew the President here for saftey reason and talk about a hugh mess. He has been back several times and usually they dont shut down much stuff because he lands at the base and the usually have the conference's and what not there. Although a couple months back he was having a forum for his SS reform and they did close a bunch of stuff then. He went and rented a hotel at one of the casino's for a nap and a work out. How funny.....But I do like to see the big planes. Barksdale houses the B-52's and those a huge monster, love to go and drive on base to see them my dad is retired AF so my mom and I go. We take the kids to look at them. Would really hate to make one of them mad.... :biglaugh:

It is so cool when a President comes to town. Makes you feel rather special.

I slept through most of the storm this morning. Had no idea that it got as bad as it did until I watched the local news. Usually, I wake up during storms. Guess I was too pooped to pop up. :D
