View Full Version : Exhaustion
I had a doctor apointment today to get a bladder instillation and do pelvic floor therapy. By the time I got my kids to school, myself ready and to the doctor's office I was absolutely exhausted! :help: I made the decision not to do the pf therapy because I could barely walk let alone work out my pelvic muscles. I just feel so bad that I am too tired to even do things that would help my symptoms. :( I just needed to vent, now I need a short nap before I have to get my kids from school and scrape up enough energy to get through the rest of the day!

Jen
I know what you mean by exhaustion and I don't to that much. lol
I asked my physical therapist today how do I know if I have pfd. He says when you can't hold in your urine anymore.
Is that true because I am getting sick of all doctors
Thanks

Is being tired all the time a IC symptom? I have not heard if that is so? Because I am so tired all the time!! I have been recently told I have IC so I am learning a lot about it.
Thanks.

I am exhausted from the time I get up (no matter how much sleep I get) to the minute I go to bed. Chronic pain is very hard on our bodies-it exhausts us. As well, with some meds the side effect is tiredness. Put the two together and we sometimes feel like walking zombies.

Rhonda,
I also had extreme fatigue starting in Jan.04'. I thought it was bc of the IC, pain meds, FM and I also lost my Dad suddenly the year before.....but, when it got to the point that I could hardly get out of the chair, I knew something else was going on. Do you have any other symptoms beside the IC and fatigue?? I started losing more hair, had dry heels and tons of ear wax! (yuck, I know, lol) So, I went to my primary and asked him to check my thyroid. I was dx'd with Hypo-Thyroidism the next day. Right away I was started on Synthroid. It took about 2 months to start feeling better. Now, I only have the continued hair loss which I suspect is from the Synthroid. Anyways, it wouldn't hurt to get your Thyroid checked. I think that Hypo-Thy. is a sister disease of IC? I do know that when you have IC you are more likely to get Fibro. and with Fibro. you are more likely to have low Thyroid.....(I also have Fibro.) Just wanted to tell you my story. It could very well be the usual fatigue of IC and chronic pain. Or, it could be something else. Keep us updated.

Pain and discomfort can definitely cause fatigue --- but if you haven't already discussed it with your doctor, I suggest you do so.

Well, first I have to say that my schedule is 3:30am to about 9:30pm (meaning work, kids, house chores, dinner etc.). I have two kids (6 & 9).
I have been to the doctor just recently to get everything checked, they sent me to the lab for blood work and it came back that nothing was wrong (which is good). Dr. Looking into it further because I was not satified I knew that there had to be something else going on and esp. with my pain/discomfort I was having she came up with the IC. I have had the Hepiran test done. I went last week and saw my doc again and told her that I wanted a second opinion so she is sending me to a Urologist. Which I go on Wednesday. 5/4
I have a question- With IC when you eat something that does not agree with you do you get the pain and/or burning instantaneously? I have a several episodes where I had for Example, I ate pizza and afterwards the pain was right there.
Another question-has anyone noticed that salt has become an issue. meaning you can taste salt in foods more so? I don't know if it's the medicine I'm on. (Elmiron).
Also, are you extremly thirsty?
This is all new to me, I am just trying to understand IC. Thanks for all your help! :)

Yes, I can feel certain foods and beverages before they have reached by bladder. This is very noticeable with white wine (which I have to give up).
I do notice that many foods seem over salty. I remember when we had ham for Christmas about two months after I started getting I.C. symptoms and it seemed very salty, but no one else throught so. I wasn't on Elmiron yet, though. I think most foods are over salted especially restaurant and fast food foods.

I also experience what feels like a UTI but is not. I can have foods or beverages and instantly I have the pain of a UTI. I am in pain and in the bathroom everyfew minutes (the pee can either be little or lots depending on how much I have been drinking, remember I am extremly thristy so therefore I am constantly drinking the water)
Other than water what do you drink? I have cut out my diet coke competely !!!! (which was a task for me) I love Ice tea so again I am cutting back on that and I am almost not drinking that like the diet coke. I am only drinking one cup of coffee in the morning and am trying to kick that habit as well. What else is there???????
What about the bloating?

Oh-
Has anyone tried the prelief? does it work? If so, from what store have you bought it from?

I use the Prelief, when I want to have dressing on my salad, or if I go to a restaurant and they only have regular tea, or before a coctail. I think it does help. Since I have heartburn problems too, Prelief helps that also. I buy it at Rite-Aid.
I can drink probably a little more variety than most IC-ers, becauue my IC is mild. I can drink Postum, pop with added water and lots of ice (now a sip of regular pop is so strong, I can't believe I ever drank the stuff). I can drink most decaf teas, same with iced tea and I also Helva low-acid decaf. Vanilla milkshakes are great, too.
