Hi Ladies,
Since my hydro on Thursday, my IC seems to be worse. ALOT worse! I have to pee every hour during the day and about every 3 at night. Before hydro I would go once at night and maybe 5-7 times during the day.
Also, my urethra REALLY hurts, my labia (spelling ? and right body part?) also is sore and swollen. Two years ago, they cathed me to get a 'clean' urine sample. The nurse who did this said; "My you have a very small urethra!" Could this be the reason now for the pain or is this normal?

Nurse told me my urethra was small too and I asked her the same thing. She says if you get it stretched, u might be worse so I do not really know anymore.
Macylynn - It is so common to develop an infection after that procedure. Did your doctor give you any preventive antibiotics? I had preventive meds and STILL developed an infection.
I would get checked for a UTI if I were in your shoes. If it is one hopefully you can get on an antibiotic soon and that bladder can go about healing. :kissing:

Hi Macylynn! :hi: I was also told that I have a tiny urethra. And every single time I get a catheter..no matter if they use a small catheter or not...my urethra hurts BAD and so does the surrounding area. Not to mention it hurts really bad to pee, it's like trying to pee shredded glass for me. Big big ouch. I'm sorry you're hurting. It is always a good idea to get checked for infection if you're having more pain than usual. However, in my case, I always got checked and never had an infection. Just a very ticked off urethra AND bladder. :cussing: My uro used Lidocaine gel to numb the urethra before and after the procedure, plus sent me home with a prescription for it to use on my own. (Maybe an option for you..most docs don't seem to have a problem writing a script for the Lidocaine gel) The gel DOES help the pain some, but I tell ya, I finally decided I just can't get cathed unless it's absolutely necessary. I had to use the gel plus Mepergan and still felt like crap. All the catheter procedures just made me worse for weeks. Peeing was a nightmare and the pain was horrible. Yuck. I hope you feel better soon. And I don't mean to scare you with my catheter experience..just saying I can relate. Some IC'ers do seem to find their procedures much more tolerable with the Lidocaine gel. It also made my frequency go through the roof as well. One other thing that you might find soothing that someone else suggested to me awhile back. Take a squirt bottle, set it on the thin stream mode, not the "spray", and fill it with cold purified water, and squirt your urethra and surrounding area with it..then blot dry so as not to irritate the area any further. Talk about soothing.......sorry to be so graphic..but we gotta do what we gotta do, eh?? The cold water helps numb the area and I think reduced the swelling in my urethra some. I used the squirt bottle each time after catheters, and urinating too, to help reduce the chance of infection. (Good to rinse off plus it's soothing) I haven't been cathed in awhile and still have raging bladder pain..but my urethra is not hurting near as bad. Oh and, my uro always caths patients for a "clean" urine sample on EVERY visit. I finally told him he would have to stop doing that with me, it's too much drama afterwards. Now he lets me give a sample in a cup. Yay. Hope some of this helps, and feel better soon. :grouphug:

I have to agree that being checked to be sure you don't have a UTI is a good idea. Any time we have an invasive procedure, there's an increased chance of infection.

Thanks everyone!
I have stopped wearing underwear (I just didn't like the way it felt) and have experienced relief with it this way. I also stopped taking my prosid and my bladder pain is now almost completly gone. I don't know if they are related but I am feeling better! :loco:

hello, Im new to Ic network.
I have had symptoms for about two years, and Had my first hydrodistention procedure done 6 weeks ago. I was told that my ic was mild, but since this procedure, Ive experienced alot more pain. I have a deep ache in my bladder, along with more intense burning now. I also have a presure feeling that ive never experienced. . I am so worried that this hydro distention has made me worse. I hope this isnt a perminant thing for me now. Ive been under a tremendous amount of stress lately.
I felt alot better before this!! Has anyone else experienced this from this procedure? (Have your symptoms gotten better, or worse?)
Thanks!

Ive never had this kind of pain before, so I basicly feel like the hydro procedure has messed my bladder up now. I hope this all calms down.

I remember my first hydrostatic dilitation vividly.....but the next 3 I was anesthetized for because of the amount of stretching that was needed. When I awoke, the urologist told us that the bladder wall actually cracks open and has tiny "cracks" in it, which is what caused the post-procedure pain. Pain control, relaxation and bio-feedback stuff, distraction (TV, movies, etc.) and whatever you can do to get through it. For me, we found it was not overall helpful, but for some folks it DOES give them some relief by increasing the bladder capacity for them. Just don't feel that you're alone....all of us TRULY understand!!!!

The procedure is a huge stress on the bladder. I was told by multiple urologists that it can take up to 6 weeks to feel "normal, whatever that is for you" afterwards, some go back to their baseline of pain, but for some people, they get a remission or get markedly better. It is a gamble, and I hope that you feel better soon!

Hi, I just had the procedure last Wednesday and the very rude and unsuccessful doctor told my husband that if I had IC at all it was a very mild case. Well my husband talked about yanking his male area off and see how he thought that felt and if that was a mild case (my husband is great and has been here for me since all of this was diagnosed – he goes to every doctors appointment and every procedure he is there holding my hand. Not to mention he watched me go from 110 lbs to 167.5 in about two months) In any event, when I awoke from the anesthesia, I was in the worst pain and I went and sat on the toilet in the surgery room for about 30 minutes before my mother and husband convinced me to get in the car and to go home. I was halfway through the door before the nurse said “oh, I was going to get you a wheelchair but I see that you don’t need it” I was being very rude as I left the office because I was in such terrible pain and they would not do anything for me other than to tell me that I needed to go home and rest – yeah right! I was out of work until today (Monday) and I feel like I am going to have to go home at lunchtime. I am going to see my GYN tomorrow who diagnosed me and that I absolutely love and see what is going on.
I know what you are going through. Hang in there and if you need anything, please let me know. I think that it just makes you feel better to know that there are people out there with the same thing that you have and it is real and it is becoming a real problem for many people!!

I don't think some doctors realize that even the mildest cases of I.C. are very painful. The cysto/hydro is uncomfortable for just about everyone, when first trying to urinate. I think everyone should be sent home with a prescription for pain relief. I got Darvon after my cysto/hydro and asked my urologist to instill Marcaine when he did the procedure. Even so, there was pain urinating for the rest sof the day and part of the next day. I didn't have an infection, but it must be just awful if you do end up with an infection right after this test.

Ladies, is their any reason to take a urodynamics test and a cystoscope when you are already prolapsed in that area? I also have IC, but in remission and would like to stay that way. I will have to have a lift - would like facial, but that is not it.
