antidepressent as only med?

I read another thread that asked if anyone just took Elmiron as their only med??My question is "does anyone JUST take an antidepressent as their only med to help with bladder pain? I am going to try Pamelor tonight....

The only med I take on a daily basis is 15mg of Elavil, and it works great for me. Whenever I flare (which seems to be about once a month or less, and is much less severe than the flares I used to get prior to being on Elavil), I am able to control it with Unidet (an antispasmodic/anticholinergic).

Have tried most of everything.I am now taking impramine. Before taking this (about a year ago) I was getting a hydro every 3 months with cleopactrin. It helped but not for long. I have gone nine months now. I need to go back for a hydro. My life is a bit stressful right now so I am putting it of hoping when things calm down so will my bladder. I seem to have a bad case of ic I have had it for about 25 years now. I had one uro suggest I just have my bladder removed as it was so bad. But I am stuborn. I you take an antidepressent don't give up hope too soon as it takes a while for it to work . It is a slow process til one day you think yea I am better.

I only take 40 mg of elavil and it is okay but not great. It worked better at the start or until I got a UTI and it has taken approx. 8 weeks for things to start to settle down.
