View Full Version : Bicycle seats? Anyone tried these?
With the weather turning springlike, I've been wanting to ride my bike. I haven't done this since I got IC and in fact, I'll have to get new inner tubes, tires & a new seat due to it sitting out on my balcony & not being used for so long. It's got a tiny bit of rust here & there too, but I think overall, with a cleanup, tuneup & tires etc it should be fine.
But, of course, I've been wondering if it's worth repairing, since I don't really know if my IC will allow it. I did find this link to more IC friendly bike seats... (You have to scroll down the page to get to the bike seats)

Anyone tried these? Anyone ok with biking?

well to be honest with you... when I didn't have a car, I needed to go a few places and took the bike.. it wasn't ic friendly and it sure was not pfd friendly.. but you very well may have a better experience.. I have IC, fibro, myofascial pain syndrom, pfd, arthrititis(who don't) sacralititis, and 2 protruding disks.......
good luck

:smile tee Kadi,
I just checked out the seat links- wow, my dream seat, just the thought of biking makes me cringe...I actually stopped years ago as it aggravated a back injury. I think you should get a cool and comfy seat and plunk it on a new bike....anyone who can spend 5 days a week educating our kids, deserves a reliable bike for fun! If you aren't sure on a new one, try one of the shops that resells sporting goods, etc. We have one here and the stuff they get is practically new...you might find a newer one and add the seat.

I have a soft gel seat on my bike, and have no problem with it. However, the ones in the gym drive me up the wall within a couple of minutes. So.. it's a trial and error thing for me, but yes, I can ride (and I do ride on a regular basis!)
I wear padded shorts, smear on lots of "Butt cream" (don't remember the exact name) and tend to sit back on my hips rather than putting pressure on more sensitive areas. When I'm on my bike is the only time of the day I feel normal.
I miss bike riding myself. I have a 300 dollar exercise bike cant use. And I have a real nice mountain bike which cost about the same. It reaks havoc with my pelvic area. When I did ride I dont reccommend hills.I also looked into the seats but never got one. I love my bike and it just collects dust. Its all trial and error for each of us.-jojo

I tried this last week and was in pain for 2 days!
I have a really nice gel seat. so I thought it would be ok, but I was wrong.
I'll have to look at the link to the other seats and possibly try it again for my son's sake.
I also have PFD and Urethral Instability, so it may just be the combination of everything that isn't working.
good luck,
KK

Two years ago my family bought me a really nice mountain bike.......shocks on each tire and the seat..........gel seat...........and I topped it with another gel seat............I can ride it as long as I feel good otherwise........I LOVED getting back on a bike again.........
(I rode it this morning after my shower, since it was already 85 degrees and a hair dryer did NOT sound like a good idea! LOL...........felt like a kid!)

I tried to use my old fashion exercising bike. The kind that has the really big seat that is padded. Too much pain in the VV from it. Plus it would go numb there too. I gave up bike riding.

I would love to be able to go cycling, since my boyfriend gets on his road bike several days a week, but I've been concerned that my VV will act up if I do -- even with a gel seat. It's been a while since I've been on a bike -- not sure if I can get up those hills anyway!

I occcasionally ride my bike, I really miss it. I bought a seat, that finally seems to work, at least when I'm not flaring or feeling miserable. Its a "Terry Butterfly" seat made for women, has an opening in the middle, to take the pressure off some nerve endings. I just love it. It's not cheap! I got it on sale for $69, but sometimes you just have to ride your bike, and a little exercise with the right seat does wonders.
