Hi everyone!
I really didn't know where to put this, but since it might be a related condition, I thought this might be a good place.

I have a question: Have any of you ever heard (or suffer from) gastroparesis? I've been having a lot of stomach pain with a bloated feeling (esp. after eating) in the last month, so finally my doctor ordered an upper GI test. The radiologist who performed the test asked me what time my last meal was (around 10 p.m. the night before), and I thought he was just making conversation. I went back to my PCP this past Monday, and he asked me the same thing. He then tells me that the upper GI showed I STILL had food in my stomach after 12 hours, and he thought I might have this gastroparesis going on, so he's sending me to another doctor for further testing.

Anyway, the reason I ask is because I was researching this condition online, and one of the links I clicked on had an article that said some drugs could cause it, and one that it mentioned was Elavil (amitriptyline). Here is the link I found:
http://www.gicare.com/pated/ecdgs45.htm

Everything I read says that diabetes is a common cause, but my blood sugar is fine, so I know that's not causing it in my case. Needless to say, though, when I read the line about Elavil, I immediately linked the Elavil to my tummy problems, and I just wondered if any of you were familiar with it, or maybe have experienced it, and could offer some input. I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!
Sherry

I am very sorry you are suffering from this. Thanks for telling us about it. My stomach hates me but I never heard of this. Knowing it can be caused by some meds is very good to know. Thank you for the info. I certainly hope you get some relief!!

Take Care!

Hi
Yes I have heard of gastroparesis.
A girl I work with has it. She is a diabetic. Hers is caused from her being a diabetic. She was dx with the stomach emptying test (she had ALOT of tests prior to this. She has ALOT of stomach problems and they can't get her diabetic meds adjusted due to the slow stomach.

yes, I have gastroparesis. When I first got sick I stayed nausea all the time. Lost alot of weight. My doctor put me on reglan. I didn't do well with it. I now take protonix twice a day and zelnorm as needed. The zelnorm is for irritable bowel, but my doctor said it would help. I don't know what I would do without it. I also looked up the gastroparesis diet and followed it for awhile.
Hope this info helps.
