I know that coffee and tea are both supposed to be off limits on the IC diet. But, my question is- which is worse? I am being told that tea has more caffeine than coffee, but I don't know if that is always true. Also, I read that peppermint tea was sometimes ok (on the IC-handbook diet.) Is it? I do like peppermint tea.

Also, I just got some Prelief, and I am wondering how that works for people? I have been taking it if I want to have some chocolate or a cup of coffee. How often can you take it? Does it work?

Thanks for your help!

peppermint tea, no problem, low acid coffee, not too bad for me but much better w/peppermint tea, also I drink rooibos tea not often though, maybe once a month.

One thing I've noticed with tea is that if I leave the bag in for only a short while, I don't have a problem. I just can't drink tea with caffiene. For coffee, I drink Helva low Acid-decaf and I think it's be best I've tried. I buy the whole bean and have this cute, little coffee grinder. I can make as little as I want, so if my husband wants regular coffee, he makes his in a separate coffee maker. My husband is so sweet. He'll make the two separate pots and mark the one "low acid" with one of those little sticky notes.

I notice that any foods and beverages that have caused acid reflux problems for me in the past, usually cause urethal burning. (regular coffee, tea, alcohol (darn!), citric fruits and vegies, chocolate (darn again!) and spicy foods.)

JJohnson79, what is coffee tamer? I have never heard of it. Does it take the acid out of the coffee? I could send you a private message with my address if you can send it in the mail. Thanks!!! The only thing is, I don't know how to send a private message- I have only replied to ones that have been sent to me. (Still pretty new at this!) So, if you can tell me how...

I cannot have straight coffee, but I find that I can tolerate lattes. Must be the presence of milk or soy milk (I find both are fine) that acts as a buffer.

As a side note, I don't have a problem with most herbal teas, but as soon as I try black tea (earl grey, orange pekoe etc), my bladder goes into insta-flare.

Hi Outlaw, coffee tamer is by Ph Sciences, their logo is at the top right of the boards. They are changing from coffee tamer to another name, and itll be in a shaker bottle instead of little packets but its the same thing. The claim is it will reduce the acid in coffee, and some foods too. I have it here, I notice a little difference when I use it. Not a bad product.

I found the ICN shop that I was looking for. Does anyone know where to find that coffee tamer on there? Also, how is the shipping on that stuff? I have never ordered from that site before, but I see a few things that I think I would like to try. Is is really expensive?

The store has their ph choice its the same thing, or you can go to ph sciences website and order the tamer, they may still have some.

Tamer is usually available in the coffee section of supermarkets.

Prelief also makes granules, which you can order through the link above --- or PH Choice is available in the ICN Shop.

I got it at the ph sciences website, but the store connected to the boards here, has ph Choice, from the same company, same product, they are phasing out the tamer and going to only have ph choice.
