WE HAVE KITTENS!!!

We went to the barn riding and we ended up bringing home the momma cat and her 5 kittens. The barn owner said that her dogs every time kill the kittens and I could not bear to have that happen.

The Momma cat is black and skinny and sweet. To humans anyway. She is extremely protective of her babies to the other cats. She's run them off into other rooms and then proceeds to kick their bottoms!

She is at the vet right now as are the babies and she is being spayed.

The babies are all black and CUTE. I think there is 4 boys and 1 girl.

We've named them:
Momma cat is Ember
Babies are: Buffalo, Buffy, Fire Truck, Fishey and Road Kill.

Momma cat is home and doing well.

However, the vet said she is not producing enough milk and I may be bottle feeding the kittens before the weekend is through. I am to watch them closely. The kittens are CONSTANTLY nursing on her and she is such a good Momma and letting them.

So, there goes my sleep, what little I was getting anyway.

I've moved "ember" and the babies to the back room with the washer and dryer and food pantry because it has a screen door I can close and keep her in and the others out. I put a small heater in there, too. It is on top of the dryer so she won't knock it over. I hope.

Good news though.... SHE USED THE LITTER BOX!!!! :woohoo:

Shes a bit over zealous about covering her poops in the litter box, but it'll work fine. I'll just have to sweep up the litter 2 or 3 times a day.

Well, it's time to try to sleep. Hugs, Michelle.

I love cats and kittens. The kittens sound adorable. We have a big, white and orange cat and she's my buddy. She's always comes up to me to see how I'm feeling. She seems concerned and can tell when there's something wrong. I had a cold last week and she was like my own private nurse. lol

Congrats on the kitties!! They sound adorable! I too have had my share of over-zealous litter-scratchers, sheesh, I am always sweeping up litter, lol!!!! I had one kitten, Scooter, who was a 1/2 a pound when I got her, abandoned by mamma cat, that I had to bottle feed. Up at all hours of the morning to her little kitten-cries for food, lol. The first time I fed her, the day I got her, she was sooooo hungry she chewed the nipple right off the kitten-feeding bottle! I was in a panic! The vet said she'd be fine, lol.

Hugs,
Tracey :) P.S. -- love the names!!!!

Well, the little babies are doing great and i have not had to bottle feed them yet. Momma Cat is starting to produce more milk. For soem reason I had not remembered that they need kitten food to help produce milk. It's just been that long since I had kittens to deal with. So she is doing well and I just feel so sorry for her with those kittens nursing! They are so loud! I nursed Justin for a bit when he was a newborn and it HURT almost all the time. I coudl not imagine being a cat and having 5 of those little buggers on me!!

The kittens are 9 days old now and scooting around a lot. They all have their eyes open and one or 2 ears are perked up. Momma is still letting us hold them, but sometimes gets irritated with us and takes them back from our hands and puts them in the box. At least she's nice about it.

I am sort of worried about one though. Aren't cat's tails part of their spine?? This one has a tail that is bent at the tip at a 90 degree angle. I don't dare try to unbend it. I am afraid I'll hurt it.

They sure are cute. I think a couple are going to be a charcoal gray color, but the other 3 are definately BLACK BLACK BLACK!

They are soooooooo cute and fun. Of course, they are not mobile... yet!

Oh, Dixie! With all your other problems, I can't imagine finding homes for that many kittens! Hugs to you.

The kittens are starting to move. 2 of them are 'walking' around the box. It is sooo sweet.

I can't wait until they are running around terrorizing the other cats and the dogs. HEHE
