I found this coffee substitute I had read about it on this website. It is called and it is great. It is the closest thing I have found to the real thing. Just thought everyone should know. I do not know if they sell it at the grocery store but they do sell it at the health food store.

What Other Beverages Are Allowed Besides Water? I Bought Postum, Decaf Tea, And Low Acid Oj.

I, too, like the Roma and have used it for a few years now. I really enjoy it! Others prefer Postum, so it is a matter of taste. For those new to IC, do be careful if you buy Postum. There are 2 kinds, one plain and one coffee-flavored. The coffee-flavored one has additives that can really irritate the bladder. Ouch!
As to your question, Peanut, the safest thing to drink is water (many of us stick to bottled spring water as the chlorine in city tap water can be bothersome). I know, SO BORING and frustrating, but it honestly is the best thing. Hot water with a little honey added really isn't bad and is quite comforting! Decafe tea can be bad news as tea contains tannic acid which is a BIG irritant for many of us. I can't tolerate either reg. or decafe tea. Even herbal teas aren't always safe as many contain rose hips and are acidic. Sticking with water, milk (as long as you aren't lactose intollerant and don't have a problem with it) and pear juice (if you can find one without added acids, preservatives or additives) would be the safest thing to do, especially in the beginning. Later on after you have been on the diet awhile and know your personal sensitivities and tolerances, you can try a few alternative beverages like some of the teas, low acid coffee, low acid oj (would NOT recommend trying that in the beginning) and other items (like those carried in the ICN Shop).

Someone on this site mentioned that they could tolerate this type of Starbucks coffee and if I could remember who I would send them a big present! I use to start every morning with tea but when my IC started the pain from tea was immediate. I turned to drinking only water and milk until another ICER mentioned the Starbucks. I ran out and brewed myself a very weak cup to start, lots of milk and two prelief, and heaven was achieved. I now have one cup of coffee each morning, a little stronger brew then the first experiment, with milk and two prelief. I should mention that I have been taking Elmiron for five months now and have noticed that my tolerance for certain foods has increased. Even managed a tablespoon of tomato sauce on my homemade pizza the other week.

Yep, even though I can drink watered down low-acid OJ (with prelief too, lol) and peppermint tea and a couple other herbals, I still mostly stick with water. I tried a rootbeer with a glass full of ice the other day, and now to me, pop doesn't even taste that great....frightening, lol. Blueberry juice is yummy too, I get the Trader Joe's "Just Blueberry" recommended to me by Windwalker, and it's really yummy and pretty darn friendly. Every now and then I have a nice iced glass of that, sweetened up a bit with some sugar -- it's a nice alternative and no pain for me, lol!!!! (ooh, ok I am buying some of the Starbucks for sure now, I just noticed my grocery is carrying it last week after reading here about it awhile ago!)
Hgus,
Tracey :)
Cybersis-I mentioned the Starbucks (husband works for them). I too can drink the decaf breakfast blend when bladder feeling good and doesn't seem to bother me too much either. Glad it worked!! I know everyone is different and was very hesitant about mentioning starbucks.

Hey, I like to take a tablespoon of Blackstrap Molasses and mix it into a cup of hot water. Its taste is unique and I like it. Its no Starbucks but, I will take the tradeoff.
