I have a function coming up and would like to have a drink or two. Has anyone found anything that does not upset your bladder as badly as beer and margaritas?

Gin and tonic seems to be okay sometimes. :)

Amaretto on the rocks (one only for me) but I must skip my meds for it. so generally at night, I would skip all meds and take them late....it's a treat, but I am not a drinker anyway, so it's fine...but truly is fine for me symptom wise-IC and GI symptoms.

I tried Amaretto but it tasted like cough syrup. Are there different flavors? Did I buy the wrong thing? I can drink a little rum. Pina Coladas & Mudslides are my fav.

I too can get away with an amaretto on the rocks. Too chicken to try anything else yet. liz

I can drink vodka and water. Doesn't appear to bother my. But man do I miss my beer, I will have one here and there with Prelief, still causes problems but man is worth every sip.

Just in time for the Martini craze I get this lovely disease!
I stare longingly at my husbands beer or a friend's mixed drink when we go out.
I was out with friends over Christmas at a place with the different kinds of beer with odd names/ flavors and everyone was trying each other's drinks. No one seemed to want to sample my Ice Water :bonk: Go figure! :hmm:
I don't drink a lot, but with summer coming up and parties to come with it, I would love to know what to mix the Rum or Vodka with.
Are Pina coladas ok or is there pineapple juice in them????

I have found that if I have an occasional drink I take 3-4 prelief tablets 1 whole glass of water and for every sip of beer or alcohol I take a sip of water :)

I do not attempt to drink beer or alcohol while in a flare :cussing:

Don't do what I did..I put the prelief tablets directly in the beer bottle and it flowed out like hot lava all over the bar :loco: I was so embarssed I told the bartender there must be somthing wrong with the bottle he gave me :hmm:

That is too funny kittymom! I will remember not to do that. I think I will try a flavored vodka with water.

I've been pretty safe with regular martinis (the plain ones, not the flavored ones - they often add citrus or fruit juices to the flavored ones), or manhattans (whiskey, sweet vermouth and a dash of bitters). I DEARLY MISS RED WINE!!! Occasionally I have a dark beer (like Guinness stout) and it seems ok, but not as easy on the system as just gin or vodka. As I understand it, wine is the worst offender, and beer, though not acidic, has a lot of carbonation and histamine-producing things in it, so hard liquor is a better bet...

What about a vodka martini? I can't even remember what they put in a martina, its' been so long since I had one.

A regular martini is gin, a small amount of dry vermouth (the actual ratio, 2 to 1, or 4 to 1, or 50 to 1, entire books have been written about how much vermouth to add lol) and, according to some recipes, a dash of orange bitters. I have a bartenders guide, and for a vodka martini, it's just......vodka. Nothing else.

Have to add to the mix here....

I can tolerate a vodka martini with no problems. I drink them extra dry (little vermouth) straight up with 3 olives and rocks on the side. YUM! I don't drink that much any more (I only drink 1 or 2 of them) but when I do, this works for me. I have also tried a vanilla vodka martini (no olives) and that didn't bother me either. Forgot to add...LOTS of prelief with these!

I can drink sweeter white wines with plenty of Prelief. Vodka tonics occasionally, also with Prelief.

I have to watch it though... I have fibro/chronic myofascial pain syndrome, and hard liquor sometimes actually causes me a ton of body pain. The other day I had one vodka tonic and was rolling on the floor with my shoulder and back spasming like mad. I read some fibro/MPS patients can have this paradoxical reaction to liquor in a book on fibro/MPS by Devin Starlanyl. Oddly enough I only get it with hard liquor, so if I sip 2 glasses of white wine and have Prelief with them, and then water when I get home, I'm usually fine in terms of IC AND the muscle pain.

I think I will also try kahlua! Maybe a white russian? I dont' know what is in them, but they look like milk! I should also be safe with a mudslide. THe good thing about mixed drinks is they are so expensive, I will only be able to afford one or two! Ha!

I can tolerate white sweet wines, but no more than two small drinks.

When I first tried white wine, I just took a sip of my husband's --- that didn't bother me so the next time, I took a little more. I did it slowly and over a period of many weeks (we don't drink wines often).
