It's me again. I just went this week to Dr. Perry in Birmingham. He is a really nice man and a good doc. Only problem, he gave me a lot of meds with some kind of confusing directions on starting slow and building up and I just didn't have the gumption (after and hour and a half car ride and an hour of waiting) to ask about it better. Also, he said that he wanted to see me back in four months......I'm in so much pain and I just can't stand to keep waiting for releif. I have a full time job and a 2 year old, I can't be out of commission for any reason. Dr. Perry doesn't like to give narcotics or pain meds, so I'm not sure what to do. I feel like because I want pain meds (because they are the only thing that has helped me so far) that I am bad, or a drug addict.

Anyway, I still have an appointment with Dr. Keith Lloyd in May and I can't decide whether to go or not. I am afraid that my insurance is going to refuse to pay if I have another appointment too. I am already in dept b/c of meds and co-pays from surgery twice in 4 months.

I really just want to know if anyone is familiar with Dr. Lloyd and has any info on him and how he treats IC. I guess I'm wanting a more aggressive doctor. After all, it is hard to be patient when you are in pain every day and can't seem to get relief.

I also am still interested in trying to get a support group together in the North Alabama area (Decatur, Huntsville). I just really need some help right now and some folks that I can talk to on a regular basis. I guess I need someone to commiserate with and to give me advise. I mean, I went from being a new mom 2 years ago to surguries and a chronic disease that is sucking my life away from me now.

Any words, advice, gripes, anything would be appreciated.

You can even private message me, or call me.

My home number is 256 751-4545. I am not there until after 5:30 pm cst on the weekdays though.

Thanks,

April

Hi

I have the pain all day long and went to pain management as they are prescribing pain and anti-spasmatic and pills to do pain receptors and a tens unit.

Maybe that will help u

After having a VERY painful surgery with another doctor (in Jacksonville, AL) and still having problems, I was able to get in to see Dr. Burns, a urologist, at the Kirkland Clinic, which is part of UAB - enough said.

He is wonderful, as is his entire staff, and the staff of Kirkland. He is very thorough and wants to fix your problem, not just treat it.

His number is 205-975-0088. I also have a number that says scheduling 205-934-3180.

About the pain medications, do not hesitate to ask for them! This hurts like HELL and they know it. I have never had a doctor refuse to give me something for the pain.

I hope that you find the help you are looking for. Let me know what happens.

I forgot to mention that what helps me the most with the pain is an anti-spasmatic drug - I'm sorry I cannot remember the name right now or get to the bottle. It works best if you take it the SECOND you start to feel a twinge of pain. I'm sure Dr. Burns (or any other doctor that deals with this will know.)

I really feel that it has helped save my life. What I do is take that and then also take my pain meds right afterward.

For me, controlling the pain is about getting to it before it gets bad and takes several hours to lessen. Remember the drugs are going to take a little time to start working, and your pain is building up speed while you are waiting for that to happen.
