I was wondering how often a person could have a hydrodistention done? I have tried to have instillations done, with no help, dmso is out of the question, cost, they say I have tried everything but, interstim. I am very scared at the thought of interstim, but I did have a hysrodistention done in October 2003, and had 5 moths with little or no pain but i can't get my doctor to do another one. I have not had any relief from this since February 2004. I am in pain every day. Bladder spasms, back pain, and flare ontop of flare. Is it normal for a doctor to not do a hydro distention because i had one 19 months ago. I guess i am trying to decide if I need to find a new doctor.
Any input would be helpful. Thank you very much...........

my doctor does one on me at least once every six mths. but that is due to removal of hunners but was told he was safe.
talk to your doctor about having it done since its been so long and if it helps you its worth a shot.
sending you hugs and prayers

I can't speak to the therapeutic hydros that many speak of here, but I could understand a Dr. not agreeing to one for classic Dx issues. Is it possible that there is some confusion between the two reasons...probably not, but just a quick thought.
I am really very ill informed on the "physical" treatments, as I have only had oral treatments. there are many here, who I am sure can guide you on this on.

I have a cysto with hydrodistension done about every 3 to 4 months and it does give me relief from the pain and discomfort. Except right now - have been off work for 4 days and still not feeling very well - my tummy's blown up like a balloon and I have little or no energy. This just isn't like me. I was wondering if maybe I also have pelvic floor disfunction and that's why the pain's still there. Just a thought. You might want to try and find a doctor that's more willing to help you with this. My urologist has no problem with doing repeated cystos.

My shortest time between hydrodistention has been six months, but I know of others who have them more frequently.

Yes, while I have not had one for over a year, I know many on this board get significant relief from periodic ones. I know that it is relatively safe to have done on a fairly regular basis, and there are uros out there who will do this as a therapeutic procedure -- I know my uro will if asked, I just didn't get significant relief from mine (maybe a month or so).
