I think that the biggest difference is that with overactive bladder, you have leaking. In IC,I think it is very rare to have leaking. Not sure what else. All I know is that the bladder spasm medications that I tried (and I tried a ton of different ones,) did not help me at all. So, I figured that was not my problem.

Overactive bladder involves involuntary spasms of muscles and the bladder itself(most importantly the detrusor muscle which controls urgency and frequency)that causes the gotta go feeling. My urgency with IC is more pain involved.

Many ICers have bladder spasms because of their inflammed bladder. Overactive bladder is bladder spasms for no known reason...bascially many ICers have overactive bladder as part of their IC symptoms. I do and I know many others that do as well. So as Barb said there is more to IC than just spasms.....

Is it possible that IC can be confused with overactive bladder? the more i read from people diagnosed with IC the more confused I am. The pain everyone talks about just isn't here.

I suppos that is a Very Good Thing... but what if my doctor is misdiagnosing me?

If you have concerns about what your doctor is telling you, my suggestion would be to see another doctor for a second opinion.

It's possible that you do not have IC.

I agree with donna if there is a concern that he has misdiagnosed you then get a second oppinion from another uro. Thats what I am doing for the concern of not having it and the fact that my first doc was not much help at all.
