:woohoo: Did my first home instill tonight, as usual haven't peed it out yet, will probably be a few more hours. Anyway, I just washed stuff off with soap and h2o and was going to store it in a baggie, should I be doing anything else?
I am so excited I got it in the first time...Yippie :woohoo:
I am doing 40, 000 u heparin, then lidocaine and Bicarb...
My doc said to do 1-2 x a week...I am just going to try 2 x a week for a few more weeks to see if I can get my flare under better control....Yippie :)
Congratulations!
Wishing you relief soon!!!

Make sure that your catheter is completely dry before you store it, that is the only thing that I would tell you. When I was doing the home instills, the uro was very insistent that the catheter had to be dry before storing it. Good luck with the instills, and I hope that they help you feel better.

when i use to reuse my caths. I would wash my caths with white vinger and water let soak for 20 mins then air dry then put it back in the bag. this way there steril (sp?) and ready for the next use.
I'm so proud of you way to go!! :woohoo:

Congrats to you melanie 626! Hope it brings the relief you are expecting.
I was wondering if anyone has tried Chlorpactin. I'm just home from Doc-had infection last week which has cleared. Remaining symptoms are flare of IC. I will NEVER do DMSO instillations again. HORRIBLE!! I was wondering about the Chlorpactin-it is the first time my Doc has suggested its use. I am going with Benadryl/Elavil combo for now with Urimax--Not sure I want to try the Elmiron.
ANY SUGGESTIONS/EXPERIENCES?

sorry, no experience with that...I hated DMSO too, they didn't do a thing for me. Have you tried Heparin? I do it with Lido and sodium bicarb and they really help me a lot.
wishing you succuss...
Thanks ladies for the cath washing advice, it is a 8 fr, so I will be sure to make sure it dries out completely.
