Hi, I was told today I probably have IC. Now that I read about it I think I've had it for a long time. I am scheduled for a hydrocystoscopy a month from now but have heard conflicting reports about that procedure making things worse. What have been others experience?

I think it rarely makes things worse. Granted, the few days to a couple of weeks after can be no picnic (and even that is individual) as you recover from the procedure, but most people do just fine long term. In fact, many people feel better after hydrodistensions and use them as a treatment. In my case, I just returned to how I felt before, but it did give me my diagnosis.

I have had 3 done first was diagnose second was for second opinion doctor did not believe diagnose and third wanted to try a different bladder medicine. I was fine after the procedures one to two days mostly discomfort not to much pain.

I have had one... I don't think it makes things worse, and I think most people on the boards will tell you the same thing. Yes, you may feel lousy for a while after the procedure, but that usually clears up. In fact, about 50% of patients find significant relief from the procedure :)

I'm one who experiences significant relief from hydrodistention. You will probably not feel good for a day or two afterwards, and that first time to urinate can be very painful, but nearly everyone reports they don't have long lasting problems from the procedure.

I, like Donna, get significant relief after the initial recovery period from a hydro. I have had 3 so far.

Hi there just wanted to add my 2 cents LOL. I had a hydro in December 2004. I couldn't go back to work for 2 days and I was sore and my first pee pee was tough. my uro sent me home with pain meds and pyridium.

I have had 4 so far, they give me significant(?) relief for about 4-6 months before I have to start to think about having another one. It does hurt for the first day when especially when trying to go to the bathroom. I usually have these done on a Friday so that I don't miss too much work.

I get some relief too. I think most urologists send their patients home with some pain meds just in case. It would be nice if you could schedule it for a Friday and have the weekend to recover.

Mine sucked and I had a few icky days, didn't note much relief from it....I think everyone is different. Ask for pyridium and pain meds and like they say, take a few days off. The first pee is the worst, it burns, but it does get better, especially if you get- the pyridium on board right away. Good luck.

It would have been great on a Friday but my uro only does procedures on Tuesdays.ugh go figure.

I have been feeling pretty good but the last week I have been in a flare I can't figure out why I havn't done anything different.. I truly believe my bladder has a mind of its own LOL
