Hi,
Are there any yogurts that may be better than others? Does any one know what in the yogurt makes it a problem? :hmm:

I can eat yogurt with no problem, but not everyone with IC can. If you decide to try it, my suggestion would be to eat just a tiny bit, like 1/4 of a cup at first. And always read the label to be sure there are no additives.

I also can eat yogurt but I have to watch the labels, some of them are sweetened with artificial sweeteners and I can't have those.

I eat yogurt too, but only organic. I am not one, however, that finds that my symptoms are worsened by diet, though I try to follow most of the diet very closely anyway, because I think it can only help!
However, things like yogurt, which I, like you, wonder why it is on the BANNED foods list mystified me and I eat a little of it anyway. As far as all dairy goes, I try to eat organic products because I think that the hormones can't do any good for us, especially us with health problems.

I can eat yogurt with no problem, but I'm very odd for an IC patient. I find that most foods don't really have much of an effect on me, while medications do have a terrific adverse effect on my bladder.

I have no problem with yogurt as long as it is not sweetened artificially.

I am one not as affected by the diet either...though after years from GI issues and reflux, I am so used to being on limited foods, that I find most of what I stay away from seems to be common sense things for IC anyway, and though I am not supposed to I drink coffee...I have tried many times, and I just can't give it up....it is such a big part of my migraine cycle...but yes, I can eat yogurts and choose them merely by choice and I too stay away from artificial sweetners...I hate them and they give me migraines...I guess I am a "dieter" by way of other issues....:)

I think being a little cautious may be good thing....obviously avoid those with artificial sweetners and then of course...don't get the kind with huge hunks of strawberries if you know strawberries irritate your IC....try plain, blueberry or raspberry yogurt.

At first perhaps try half of a serving...I have to buy the single containers....the big ones economically are better but a) its inconvenient for packing lunch and b) and I found if I eat TOO LARGE a serving of yogurt -- IBS-d somtimes pays a visit (no, I'm not lactose intolerant) I think it mught be the enzymes that get all gung-ho and start moving everything along...(good grief.)

I didn't necessarily think there was a "banned" list perse (??)....I think its more of list to say "well, if you try it..you prolly will regret it, b/c most people don't fare well." Its all individual, depending on how toxic you are, your allergies, sensitivities, are you flaring...etc. I eat and drink SO much that I avoided in earlier years because I couldn't....

Let us know how you make out if try it, k? :)

Its on my no no list from my doctor under "foods high in tyrosine, tyramine, tryptophan, aspartame to be avoided", not saying I wont try it tho ;) My suggestion, plain, ORGANIC yogurt. :)

I was so scared to try yogurt too! It sat in my frig until it almost expired ...then I tried it ( Plain, organic type) only one Tablespon. Nothing happened so I tried two.... nothing happened so I ate the whole thing. The next day I bought blueberry lowfat organic and no fat organic and also bought it in blackberry flavor. I ate them all and had no problem. I am so happy I found another yummy thing I love!

I do ok with the organic ones, also - made the mistake a couple of days ago of trying the Dannon La Creme vanilla, which made my bladder unhappy - checked the label and malic acid is one of the ingredients. SHEESH.
