I've already asked my doctor about this and he said :"not really" but do you think there might be a connection between having an abortion and getting an IC? It's a personal thing for me, I started getting my first IC symptoms a couple of years after I had an abortion and I have always wondered if that's how it all took off. After all, IC is about that unknown damage to the bladder wall, are any of the organs close enough that the link could be established?

Some of us have wondered if there is a connection between pelvic surgeries and IC, but there is no evidence that I know of to establish that one leads to another.
To be honest, when I listen to all the stories on here, I can't find any one single link that seems to apply to everyone. If I had to guess, I'd guess that there are multiple triggers for IC, but I couldn't even begin to guess what those triggers might be.

I think just about any truma to the bladder any way might be a reason for I.C to happen.
like i had three major bladder surgeries two before i was a year old and one when i was in third grade. then i had three children and have had many many u.t.i threw out my life i'm 30 years old.
so i believe for some reason if the doctor hit your bladder put to much pussure on your bladder etc. i believe it could had happen.
Please remember this is just my thoughts on the subject. No one knows for sure how I.C happens.

I'd say that abdomen surgeries do seem to trigger IC symptoms in many people...and or make a lot of us worse....but it is the only reason we have IC...not likely.
I have multiple reasons including abdomen surgeries. Ofcourse there are lots of people that have an abdomen surgery that don't get IC...so it seems likely that we all have multiple causes or that we are pre disbosed to getting IC. If you didn't notice till 2 years later that is longer than it took for me to notice symptoms after surgery by quite a lot. That doesn't mean it didn't contribute...but it makes it equally likely that it didn't.
I hope that helps.:grouphug:

Hi, I'm pretty new to all of this. I want to say that I have not had an abortion, been pregnant or had any pelvic or stomach surgeries... but I have IC. :hmm:

I have never been pregnant (therefore, never had an abortion). I have never had abdominal surgery and never had injury to the region.
After reviewing my medical history, they think I have had IC my ENTIRE life.

My IC started after a major surgery, but I feel my body was already predisposed to develop IC and the surgery triggered the symptoms.
I would not think an abortion would cause IC.
