Just curious if anyone who has the interstim has had any painful flair ups?

The interstim is not for pain. It can help with frequency, but even those who find it successful in that area still need help with pain control.

Interstim is not for pain. Interstim helps with frequency and urgency. However, you can still have IC flares with interstim in which you have an increase in pain, frequency, & urgency.

Yes you can still have flares with the interstim. I still have mine it is not working right and is turned off right now (looking at revision surgery end of April) but when mine did I had flares. And they were painful. I still even after the stim am having to take my pain meds daily. I hope if you have a flare that it ends soon. Have you had any adjustment it might be that the unit needs an adjustment.

oh yea flair ups still happen with the interstim.. it's not for pain, too bad for us..
the fda cannot give permission for Medtronics (and medtronics will not say) that the interstim is an ic treatment, even tho it helps with urgency, frequency, and in some rention.. the reason for this is......... It dose not help all of the ic conditions, like pain, bladder spasms.. so forth and so on... If and when they do create a product for IC it will have to help all of the symptoms IC dishes out.. and that will be hard to do because we are all so different with our conditions.... Thats why it is so hard to treat people with IC because we all respond differently to treatments.

I had my Interstim surgery at the end of this January 2005, and right away most of my ic pain went away and of course the frequency, etc..I was so happy at least for me it helped the pain..Although the last few weeks I have noticed some pain in my back area, and have an apt next week for reprograming on my Interstim...I know the Interstim is not for pain but it did at least help me out...As for flareups after Interstim I do believe it is possible..

I Am New To Your Group. I Received My Interstim On March 7, 2005. Since That Date I Have Had It Reprogrammed Twice. It Is Really Not What I Thought It Would Be. Seems Like I Was Expecting Too Much, And The Recovery Is Very Hard. Can Anyone Share Thier Thoughts With Me.

I had mine implanted Feb. 11. I went back for reprogramming once. I'm going tomorrow for the 3 month check. I had great results with the trial. I went 3 hours without peeing!!! I was down from 44 times avg. to 17 avg. Right now though it is not working as well. My volume is low - only 100ml at the most. I'm hoping the uro can help with that. I have had some vulvular pain. Sometimes it is hard to walk. I'm glad to hear that others are working with the pain. It helps when I know that it's just not me. Blessings to all.

at one time when i went to the pain clinic the doctor there tried to tell me YES IT WAS, BUT I started doing my homework and one of the first things i found out was it wasn't for pain that was enough for me to say NO.
a friend of mine that has I.C i know personally also went to the same pain clinic they force it on her saying she didn't want to get better if she didn't get it.
she went threw the trail. however it didn't help her just caused her more pain. she didn't go threw with having it installed. bless her heart, she did this because he said he wouldn't treat her for her pain if she didn't at least try it. which was way wrong!!
to srmaggie.
:welcome: to the ICN family. we look forward to seeing more post for you.
sending you both hugs and prayers

Yes you still can have flares with interstim. I did and as you read many have and do.
I hope you feel better real soon. I know flares are horrible. When my flares are bad then I will say.." I want the bladder out and out now." Then after the flare I decide I will keep it for awhile yet...ha! I am sorry you are in a flare. Interstim doesn't prevent a flare. Hopefully it will pass for you real soon. I pray it does.
