Hello all...Just wondering if anyone with any medical knowledge can help me out. I have my biopsy report(from my cysto/hydro,) but have not seen the doctor about it yet. It states that I have a benign "reactive urothelium" with "nonspecific congestion." At least I know that I don't have cancer! But, I am wondering about the "reactive" part. I know that the urothelial layer is the deepest layer of the bladder. I also think that the congestion is an abnormal collection of blood. Could the "reactive" mean inflammaion? Just trying to figure all of this out since I am STILL awaiting my final dx!! (And, going crazy in the mean time!) Thanks for any help you can provide!! And, Happy Easter!

Basically your biopsy report indicates inflammation of the bladder. The mucosa or urothelium is reacting to an irritant -- eg. bacteria, medication, acidic urine. The deepest layer of the bladder is actually the third layer of muscle. The bladder is made up of a mucosa, submucosa, and detrusor muscle which consists of three layers of muscle -- an inner and outer layer of longitudinal muscle which sandwiches a middle layer of circular muscle. "Non-specific congestion" indicates the cause is not specified, for example it is not caused by a tumor, polyp, growth, etc. -- the cause is basically unknown, the specific causative agent or organism has not been identified.

Hope this info was helpful.

Thank you so much for your information! It was very informative! I guess that I was basically wanting to confirm that there was in fact inflammation. I think that my uro is an idiot, and I am planning on calling a new one on Monday. I am just going crazy in the mean time trying to get my dx (which I KNOW is IC!) I just want to get the right dx so that I can get the right help! Thanks again!

I sure understand your 'going crazy' bit!!! I did that very same thing. Just to let you know that you are not alone with that one. Switching doctors if you are not happy with who you have, is not a bad thing. I had to do that many times.
Please take care, and good luck.
Giant :grouphug: to you and hope you get your answers SOON!!
