what happens when u have a hydro and your bladder appears normal without any reddness or ulcers yet u have every symptom of IC? How can the medications heal your bladder lining if it looks ok? (instills and Elmeron) The pain meds help but if there isnt anything there---how can they help?? Thank u

Hi demi

I hope your doctor did a biopsy. When I had my hydro done everything looked normal too, until the biopsy came back and showed inflammation and the beginning of i.c.

If you do not know if he did the biopsy I would ask him

I agree with Mary check to see if he did the biopsy. Also endro quite often gives the same symptoms of IC. Have you been checked for that?

It's fairly unusual, but definitely possible to have a normal looking bladder and still have IC. I know of one particular instance where a person whose hydro showed a normal, healthy bladder, but was diagnosed with a potassium sensitivity test. You might request that your uro do one.

I am having the same problem! I just had the hydro, and the uro said that he didn't see anything. Then, I asked him- didn't you see ANY inflammation? And, he said, well slightly. Well, that is SOMETHING!! But, he is still reluctant about the dx of IC. I do not know what else it could POSSIBLY be since I have been tested for EVERYTHING else. My biopsy says something about a reactive lining with unspecific congestion- don't know what that means. I have to make an appt. Anyway, I know how frustrating it can be!! I am going crazy! It is so hard to not have an answer!! (And, feel miserable at the same time!) I am going to contact a uro that specializes in IC this week to make an appt. I think it is worth the time and little extra drive to go to someone else who KNOWS IC, and see what he has to say. Good luck and hang in there!! You are not alone. This board has helped me so much, and I think it can help you too.

You got some great advise....checking for Endo, a biopsy, could the doc just be reluctant, getting a potasium test, a second opinion may also be a good idea!

One other thought is have you tried the IC diet?? If you see improvement with IC diet there is a good chance it is IC. You can find that in the handbook. http://www.sworcare.com/IC%20survey.htm Also do you have a high PUF score?
I don't know how to make this make sense other than to say it seems very likely that all dammage to the gag layer is not always possible to see even during hydrodistention which is why treatments that help rebuild that layer still help.

http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/ this is an essential link for everyone with IC. It is very informative on meds, living with IC, and self help....take a look!!!
