I just wanted to share that the Desert Harvest Aloe Vera (available in the ICN Shop and on the DH site) really seems to be helping! Since I can't take Elmiron, I started the DH on March 5, and in less than the month they say it takes to work, it has made a noticeable difference. Usually, I flare pretty badly around ovulation, but this time just a few twinges. Also, when I checked my urine ph yesterday, it was up out of the oranges and into the greens for the first time EVER! The only change I made was taking the DH. Could the high doses of aloe be boosting my ph?

How do you adjust your world to get your PH under control....Intriguied by this....glad to hear the aloe is helping, I saw a jug of it on the shelf at my local walgreens, what is it supposed to do?

Melanie, the Desert Harvest aloe is different than the capsules or jugs you see in the stores. DH has formulated their aloe to be concentrated and low acid specifically for IC. I met with a patient once who showed me the aloe juice she was using and it even had caffeine in it. You can check it out on the site here, to learn more about it: Desert Harvest Aloe (http://icnshop.com/cgi-bin/ustorekeeper.pl?command=goto&file=Alternatives.html&rtn=jb)

There seem to be many people who have been helped. If it is going to help you will likely see benefit within a few weeks.

I hope this helps!

I am currently taking Elmiron, and tried some Chinese herbs (still hoping for "well" instead of "better") and OUCH I'm flaring. It's been about four days now since I stopped the herbs, and I did take them for three days before I got bad. And I'd been seeing some improvements too! How long does a dietary reaction like this normally take to calm down? I'm really curious, because I've been so strict with the diet that I have not had a flare like this for months now (except hormonally related!).

Does anyone know if there is any problem trying aloe too if you are already on Elmiron?

Sarah :hmm:

Stephanie,

Thanks for the good info!

Sarah,

I've heard that Chinese herbs can cause problems for ICers. As for how long it takes for my bladder to calm down after a flare from something I've taken, it can take anywhere from a day to several weeks. Sorry I can't be more specific, it's very frustrating.

Diana.
