Well, well, well...I just got the OR report from my hydro last Thurs. I read the report that states that "examination confirmed the presence of mild hyperemia." (after the bladder was emptied after being distended.) I looked up hyperemia and it says it presence of blood. Now, my pcp says that anytime you distend the bladder, it may bleed. I said, that the classic sign of IC is pinpoint bleeding after hydro! Am I missing something here? It also says "one hyperemic area that was noted which was biopsied." I am still waiting for the biopsy results. What do you think another uro would say (someone who knows IC?) Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Usually when your bladder is distented and there is pinpoint bleeding in the bladder it usually is IC. I know my bladder has this when it is was distened both times. Did your uro or reg dr do the hydro?

My uro did the hydro, but I showed the report to my pcp and said, don't you think this DOES look like IC? I mean it shows the bleeding...He said, that the uro should know because he has done so many of them...and, if he says that it is not IC...and he said that anyone would bleed after being distended...I don't think that my uro knows what IC even is if he said it wasn't IC!!

I guess what I am wondering is- who is right? If I take this to another uro, are they going to say the same thing? Or, does this uro just not know what he is talking about or what IC looks like? My gyn is the one who suggested IC, and I really think he is right (considering that everything else has been ruled out.) Plus, with the hydro- I thought that the bleeding MEANT IC.

If you dont' feel that this uro is right then call around and find you another uro that knows I.C ask how many pat. have they treated with i.c that way you know if they really knows I.C ask how do they normally treat i.c this is another way of finding out if they know what i.c is because of the treatments they use.
That is personally what i would do if i had to find another uro. I pray mine doesn't never move off and leave me.
he almost did one time thank the lord his wife didn't want to move. lol

I believe another uro would look at the picture of your bladder and give you his advice but most uro would want to do there own hydro/c. on you so they would know for your there self a lot of doctor don't like to take another uro's advice. Just make sure before you go waste another dollor on finding another uro and having to pay that first pat. fee. which i think isn't right :( that they know about the disease.
sending you hugs and prayers

I agree with Rhonda, if you don't feel comfortable with this urologist, see another -- you could call around and ask various urology practices if they treat IC patients, how many they treat in a year, how they diagnose, what their general treatment plan is, and things like that. That will give you an idea of whether or not the doctors there are experienced in dealing with IC.

If your bleeding was very mild, then some uros will say that perhaps it's either not IC or a very mild case. However, it is possible to have IC without ANY BLEEDING AT ALL!! Dr. Moldwin's book, as well as other sources, describe cases where the cysto/hydro looked fine, but the patient had all the symptoms of IC -- and responded to standard IC treatment -- which means, bleeding or not, the patient had IC. SO, my point is that your uro may not be as well informed as you'd like if he is saying you do not have IC... you may well, even if your bladder did not look too bad.

It may be worth a second opinion!

I always think we have some instincts about our health...I agree with Rhonda and Jen!
Diagnosing IC is so complicated! Do you have a high PUF score? If you do and have pinpoint bleeding....I would definatly think you should get another doctor!! :grouphug:

What is a PVF score, he didn't mention that. My biopsy says something about reactive lining with unspecific congestion. Any ideas what that means?
