Does anyone else get pain when they use an elliptical trainer? I get pain whenever I use my elliptical trainer--even on the lowest resistance setting! I was only using it for 30 minutes every other day. I find this extremely frustrating!

I havent gotten up the courage to jump on the elliptical again, although it was my favorite exercise. I use a recumbent bike (the one w/the pedals out in front instead of below you) it has a wide cushy seat and I just ride while watching tv, I also use a stair climber very slooooly for 10 min here n there, not more tho, and some walking tapes, I just move very little compared to the ppl on the tape. Oh, and I got a thigh master from a friend lol (she had 2) and I am able to do that, resistance bands and small weights for my arms. Maybe one of those ideas could help you?

What kind of pain? Bladder?

It is so crazy!!! The elliptical is one of the only exercises I CAN do. The bike (like windwalker ws talking about) kills me! It is so individually based I think. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. (i have to remind myself constantly..lol). Try different exercises... don't give up! You'll find some that work for you too!!!

Yes, I am having great difficulty finding an exercise that doesn't increase my IC symptoms: pressure, soreness/pain, burning ... Even if I walk too far, I get increased pain. It is very frustrating and ridiculous--and very difficult to stay fit!

Do you like swimming? When I'm so sore in my bladder that I don't want to walk (forget anything with even more impact, those things went out long ago), I swim laps at the local community pool. In fact, today I did 1 mile, and this was on a bad bladder day. The key is that I am horizontal, there is no impact, and I love the water. The pool has very little chlorine, due to an ultraviolet filter. I did have to get out once to pee.
If you don't swim, perhaps a water exercise class would help? There is very little impact involved in those. Good luck.
Walking on flat ground is best (with extra padding in my shoes), gentle yoga classes also are good. At the gym, I can use the rowing machine & the elliptical trainer.
(The treadmill gave me a flare right away & the recumbent bike would've been okay except my legs kept bumping my tummy & bugging my bladder - how embarrassing
:( Maybe when I'm skinnier, I'll try that again.).

Pool is the only thing I can tolerate. Anything else flares me.

I've been doing yoga for over 8 years. I have pain sometimes but most of the time I think it helps. I've had flexiblity problems when I try to bend forward for years. I think that's where the IC problem is. I keep thinking if I get through that, my IC will be cured. It's not cured yet but I believe I would have more problems without yoga.

Do you think this would be safe? I was all set to buy an elliptical and saw the flare issue. I hate to put out that money and find out I am "one of the flare" ones. So, what does everyone think of the Gazelle?
This is so difficult!

I have never used a Gazelle, but have seen it on tv, that sounds like a commercial doesnt it lol. I can only say that from what I saw, its low impact which can be good. As for the elliptical, is there a way you could go to a community center w/a gym or a regular gym and try one for 20 min to see how you feel? Possibly a friend w/one? I can use a stair climber on a slow setting (less steps per minute but feels like you have to step a little harder) w/out a problem. It would probably be good if u could try one out a little to help w/the decision

Yes, I thought of that. I guess I would just have to figure out where, buck up, and go. :-) Thanks!

I hope you find something that works for ya! Maybe on a cooler day a good comfortable walk outside, or there are some indoor walking tapes I got from Leslie Sansone, I just do the movements in moderation, and I do alright w/em. Good luck, let us know if you find something that works for ya!!! Crossing my fingers for you!

I had a harder time with the gazelle. Although I did like it. I like the elliptical a lot! And no flares! The movements are not as smooth and comfortable, so may be worse than the elliptical. We actually bought one then sent it back (It was hard on my husband's knees). Good luck!!! TRy before you buy! lol!:dizzy:

I have trouble with most exercise - even gently done. I have not tried yoga in years though. Unfortunately I experience pain with walking (even shopping on slow speed) swimming, exercise machines etc. I just keep trying periodically when I'm feeling up to it.
