I'm soon leaving for a much needed week of sun & relaxation. We always stayed on the strip for past visits to Las Vegas, but this time will be staying on Freemont street at the Golden Nugget. Does anyone have any suggestions on "must see or do" things in this part of Vegas? Anyone know if there are any good art galleries with-in walking distance? Museums? I've been scouring the net for leads but not having a whole lot of luck,..everything being promoted seems to revolve around the strip!

Thanks,
Vicki

Vicki,
I lived in Vegas last year--there are all sorts of fun things to do. Museums, well not all that many. Walking through the hotel lobbies is like taking a trip around the world and a lot of fun. In Henderson(Green Valley area)there is a shopping area called The District that was designed to look like a quaint village shopping area and has some great places to eat. There is a monorail now that extends from Sahara to Bally's and then an additional one that runs from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay. The Secret Garden and Dolphin enclosure is awesome at the Mirage and the Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. Great shopping if you're are inclined as I usually am. The Fashion Show Mall is next to Treasure Island is high end stuff but beautiful to walk through. The Boulevard Mall is off the strip and huge. Las Vegas Premium outlets are right down by where you are staying off of Charlestion and is to die for. Feel free to PM or e-mail me if you want more ideas--hey, maybe we can meet up. If you want some tips over the phone, I will be glad to give you a call. I talk a whole lot faster than I type.

Hugs,
Barb

PS There is an art Gallery at the Bellagio. When are you coming? I only live 2 hours away.

Hey Barb,

Thanks for all the info! I was wondering about that monorail. When I was there last year it was supposed to have been completed, but was not in operation yet. I wasn't aware that it was not continuous. If I understand you right, we'll have to hoof it from Excalibur to Bally's in order to reach the Stratosphere? I wonder how packed the monorail gets? I took a bus one time from a museum back to the strip and would've never believed it was possible to put that many humans on one bus! I won't soon do that again!

That Las Vegas Premium Outlets sounds like a great place to explore. This is a situation where a number of my family will be also coming down there. So I'm trying to put together little packets on what they might do with-in a close proximity to the Golden Nugget. Everyone has various tastes,..you know how that is. My SIL, she's one serious 'shop-aholic'. My daughter usually joins her on these types of excursions. So little groups form according to interests and we all meet up again later. We'll probably only spend one or two days on the strip this time, unfortunately. I love walking through the strip casinos and have a feeling the casinos downtown will not be near as extravagant? All I know is there's a lounge chair at the pool under a palm tree that has my name on it! It's been snowing here the past two days!

I'll PM you with my dates and should you find yourself in that area for some reason, I'd love to meet up with you!

Thanks!
Vicki
