My problems with urgency and frequency began over a 1 year ago. I thought I had a UTI, went to internist and test came back negative. I have always had problems with constipation, so I thought that may be the problem. Went to GI, had a colonoscopy and found out I have IBS. O.k. tried Zelnorm and it worked for a bit. Constipation went away and frequency/urgency did too. One day frequency and urgeceny returns. Go to a urologist, he does a cystoscopy and says that everything is fine. Does a uroflow and says that my bladder is "emptying well". He rules out IC. Frequency and urgency continues then goes away and then comes back. Go to a gyn does a ultrasound and transvaginal. Find out I have an inverted uterus (never knew that before). Says my problems with constipation (Zelnorm is not working now) is causing the frequency and urgency. Contipation gets worse, I go online and research IBS diet, implement it and I am off of Zelnorm no constipation or frequency and urgency. I get a cold, don't take care of it and get a cold sore (2 days ago) and about the same time the frequency and urgency starts again. What I feeling right now is more of a cramping (lower back) with urgency. I have made an appointmet with a Gyn-Urologist, but I have to wait until April 15th. My question is should I ask for a hydrodistention? I don't have the pain that most of IC suffers discribe, nor do I have painful sex (it been a 7 months, but it did not hurt then), so I am confused about the possibility of having IC. Please advise

While it's possible that you have IC, it could also be something else. My suggestion would be to keep your appointment with the uro-gyn and discuss options at that time. It can be helpful if you write down any questions you come up with between now and then so you won't forget to ask anything you ae wondering about.

In the meantime, I suggest you read the information in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook --- you'll find explanations there about the various tests and treatment options. The IC diet information is also there and I suggest you begin that right now. Sometimes that single step helps a great deal.

Warm healing thoughts,
