This might be a dumb question, but I'm pretty new to all of this. A couple of weeks ago, my doctor confirmed that she believes I have IC, and went ahead and put on my on Elmiron and Imipramine. She also gave me the number for a urologist. I made an appointment with the uro, but I'm unsure as to what's going to happen at this appointment. If they were going to do a cystoscopy, I'm assuming they would let me know first? I'm really not looking forward to any sort of invasive testing. I'm just beginning to feel a bit better, and going through more pain is not a welcome idea. But I guess if it has to be done, it has to be done.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this!

It depends on the urologist. I did have a cysto at my first appointment, but some uros will want to meet the new patient and discuss symptoms at the first appointment. My suggestion would be to call the uro's office and ask.

Well my first appt went like this.
I went in and sat down in my regular clothes and the nurse asked me a few questions, then the doctor came in and looked at a questionaire I filled out and had my referral from my ob/gyn doc which explained some of the symptoms. Then he and I talked for about 20 mins about everything that was going on with me. Then I changed in to a paper gown and laid down on this table that was like an operating table, the nurse spayed some cold stuff on my hoo-ha, then put a plastic needle thing in me and put gel in there, then I had the cysto. It hurt a little, but you get to see your bladder on the screen and it is cool. The doctor put the solution in there and told me to hold it and it hurt really bad, then he let it out. He said my bladder was really small and irritated. Then he told me I needed a cysto w/hydrodistention and that was it.
Dont be scared, I am sure it will go fine.
