Hello all, :)
I hope you are all well. This afternoon I was talking about weird health facts with a friend and she told me that if the "white moons" that are usually at the bottom of your fingernails disappear it means you have a B12 deficincey. The same is also true if you have visible lines on your nails. I read about it on the internet and it is true, I think. Has anyone ever heard of this?
After she told me this I looked down and realised I don't have the moons and I have the lines! :bonk:
What are the best sources of B12? I have read eggs/beef but would like to know if anyone else has experienced this.
Any advice would be great, from what I have read on the internet (I know, I know, consider the source) it can be serious!

First, have your Dr verify this fact and if he feels it's neccessary, have follow up bloodwork done to r/o deficiencies (this is when I would truly love spell check here).

I don't think it is ever a good idea to load up on any type of supplement, but to get more B's from foods can't hurt...do check if you are worried...my little half moons are missing as well except for my thumbs, and I have no lines on my nails, they are PERFECT. They are also acrylics. :biglaugh:

So, I might not be a good test subject.

Next time you see your doctor, I suggest you ask this question. I agree that it's not a good idea to load up on supplements without the guidance of a medical professional. A few changes in diet are fine if you're concerned.

Hey there,

A few months ago, my doctor said I was B12 deficient. He told me to take 250 mg (1 pill) of B12 every day. I was retested and he said my levels were fine....and I do feel a bit better. I'm still taking it, but just so you know I'm looking at my fingers right now. Half moons on both thumbs and both index fingers. That's it. As for visible lines...kind of, yeah I do have some.

Good sources are all meats I think and eggs. I think chick peas/garbanzo beans are good too. Try this site out....http://healthqa.stbernards.info/html_healthgate/html/0_109/10994.php

Good luck to you!
