Does anyone else experience this, I will be so tired but just lay awake in bed.
I have thought about taking sleeping pills But I'm afraid I will not wake up to go to the bathroom and wet the bed or that I will have the same problem now, either not being able to fall asleep or waking up so many times to void that I cannot fall back to sleep.
I normal night for me is this:
Go to bed 10:00pm get very tired and I feel so close to drifting off a few times, then I notice I'm staring at the ceiling again and still awake.
Will do this till about 12:30 to 1:00 am. going to the bathroom every now and then.
at about 1:00am I will either end up getting up and reading or getting on the computer to make my eyes so tired it is hard to keep them open. then I go lay back down. fall asleep But then wake up to void and it will take me at least another hour to be able to fall asleep again. this happens most every time I wake up to void. no matter how tired I am.

But then I have some day's that once I fall asleep It's very hard to wake up I can go void but then fall right back to sleep and if no body bothers me I could sleep for two day's strait my body just feels like It's gotten no sleep. I will have to force my self to stay up which is so not easy when the bed looks so good. this will happen about once or twice a month.

Could this be Chronic Fatigue even though I actually have a hard time falling asleep? Would sleeping pills even help? I feel like a zombie most of the time.
even if I get three hours of sleep I will have a hard time the next night falling asleep.

Sorry to go on and on.

I have a problem with going to sleep. I will be so tired and lay down and watch the clock most of the night. I'm more tired when I get up in the morning trying to get ready for work. I have been taking ativan before going to bed but it has not helped me sleep. I hate to start taking another pill but I may have to talk to the doctor about it.

Please talk to your doctor about your sleep problem. It may be that a mild sedative would help you substantially --- and you will still wake up if you need to go to the bathroom.

I take Xanax so I can get to sleep in less than three hours. It does not affect my ability to wake up when needed to go to the bathroom.

:bonk: i have a lot of problems sleeping. i take ambien cr. is great. The ambien is a time released pill so i usually can go back to sleep. i do have to get up and go at least 6 times is a good nite for me. Thats the whole reason i started taking sleeping pill was because i was up and down in the bathroom and was not getting any sleep. i just started taking 25mg at nite of the elavil with it i dont have to take the sleeping pill. The elavil knocks me out. I have found i do stay hungry on this elavil. I sure hope that is not going to become a problem.

I sometimes have trouble falling asleep. I go to bed my normal time around 10:00, and sometimes I wake up (sometimes not) but I am tired -- most times as the week nears the end-- where I sleep almost all weekend long) I said something to one of my doctors so that maybe he can give me something to sleep, but he said I possibly had sleep apnea. and wanted me to have a sleep study test, which when the test came back, it showed that I didn't have sleep apnea; found out it was a little more serious than that. I have to go to my neurologist now. But yes, go to your doctor, and see if they can give you something to help you sleep.

I take abien CR and love it. With it I sleep all night. I might get up once or twice. With out it I get up like four to five times. I actually took it before IC. When I hurt bad I look forward to it. Some how it seems to help my pain (urgency) a littel bit. I have no clue why. When I wake up at night I feel like I have to go but only go a little bit. For me my bladder is not full, I just think I got to go. So for me staying a sleep is a great thing. I wish you luck. I would talk to a doctor about your sleep. You could start with you family practice (or general) doctor.

I take Ambien CR as well. I have been on it for about 1year and it worked great for about 8 months and then it kind of stoped, I stared taking a tylenol pm cuz my shoulders hurt so bad at night due to the fibro( I did not want to belive I had) and I sleep ok now. Does anyone take Lunesta? Does anyone take Ambien and stomething else.

I have taken it for a while and you do seem to get use to it. What I use to do before IC is take xanex for a week innstead of my ambien cr. When I went back it worked great. I have not tried since I got IC about two months ago. My new elavil seemed to give ambien an extra kick. Just an idea.

Oh my gosh...funny I came across this post. I am having a TERRIBLE time falling asleep lately. I will feel SOO freaking tired all day. fighting to stay up. and when I finnaly get to go to bed I lay there untill about 4:30 or so. then have to get my kids up for school in the morning. I am so tired all the time. and have taken sleeping pills before and just like a zombie in the morning. this sucks. I mean as if having to go to the bathroom a million times isnt enough, now I get to lay there and stare at the walls and toss and turn. GRRRR :bonk:

I have found several things that will help me get to sleep. First of all, I don't go to bed until I feel like I can go to sleep. Sometimes it's pretty late, but I don't like to lay in bed for hours either. I usually will read in bed for a half hour before I turn off the light.

I don't eat anything for about two hours before bed except maybe a small glass of milk --- and definitely nothing sugary for my evening meal. If I want a treat, I do it with lunch.

Sometimes something as simple as a small glass of milk will help relax.

Besides taking medication or in addition, you should try to have a routine that you do every night before going to sleep. It will a while for your body to get used to it, but it works for many people. If you have children or remember back to when you were little you most likely had a routine bofre bed, such as tooth brushing, story time, etc, and then bed. Thisacclimates your body for sleep. I used to always do a crossword puzzle, read or go on the computer. I find it to be a big help, plus you should try to go to bed at the same time every night.

Routines do help. But I gave up on "sleeping pills" after trying several brands. Melatonin is over the counter and helps me if I am not asleep by 2am. But check with your doctors before using ANY over the counter products.

You ask if this could be chronic fatigue. It is certainly one of the symptoms of CFS/M.E.

Judith56 That is sooooooooo hard for me to go to bed at the same time, I take Ambien and tylenol pm and it still takes me 2 hours to feel the affect and sometimes it works great and sometimes it take forever.

Hey Sleepy,

Try 10 mg of elavil at 7pm.If you are zonked in the am go down to 5mg and
give it a few days. you may need to increase the dosage as time passes.
Side effects can help reduce urinary frequency.YEAH! It also helps trip
the brain into not receiving pain signals.Yeah. Bad side effects can be
weight gain(GOOD 4 me)cotton mouth and grogginess.This should ease
with time. Of course, discuss this with your Doc.

I too have trouble sleeping I take melatonin because there is no hangover effect. I have to say tho I am still tired even when I sleep with out the melatonin. I can't wake up for the life of me. It's almost worse then my bladder pain. Well almost hahah. I AM SICK OF BEING TIRED. So I have been striving to figure it all out. CFS can also be yeast there are so many things that can cause this. How about just the the plain stress of having IC. I think when i am not tired anymore and the pain is gone I will truly feel well. I know I will get there though.

Not sleeping is, UNFORTUNATELY, the downfall of my life. I'm a full time graduate student, part time teacher and single mom with IC. I hate the side effects and addictiveness of sleeping pills, OTC or prescrip. My latest attack of insomnia started after a two week migraine turned headache and landed me at the DR who gave me a muscle relaxer. Ya, i finally slept but who would've known as i was a zombie after taking it. NO GOOD. I even got to the point where Xanax didn't work! So, I ended up at acupuncture and they gave me some chinese herbs for anxiety and insomnia (which don't appear to be effecting my bladder :smile tee ). Happily I report that I'm sleeping with this, also now I add a cup of Kava Yogi Tea and it's a great sleep cocktail, plus I don't spend all day fuzzy and exhausted.

Glad to hear that others out there can't sleep and can't go back to bed after voiding. it's nice to know people have the same probs and can understand our situations. i always feel like everyone in my life can't relate to all of it, because they can't!

If I waited to go to bed when I was sleepy, I would never go to bed. I have never been a good sleeper (take after my mom!) I went a long time first taking Bynadryl, then elavil, then to actual sleeping meds like Ambien, then Ambien CR, Lunesta, and a couple of others. My body chemisty just has a way of getting immuned to the meds. I am now taking Rezorem (not addicting ) and I am also started using Proced because what woke me up if I was able to sleep wasn't always urgency but burning bladder and I couldn't empty very much at all since it hurt so bad. I am now taking Proced DS and with my Rezorem and Proced, I am getting about 6 hours a sleep at night. The secret to Rezorem and most other sleeping meds is to take it right when you go to bed. If I end up staying up for any reason, even the Rezorem doesn't work. When I started using actual sleeping meds, I never felt groggy in the mornings, not like Elavil and Amitriptyline made me feel. That might be another thing to consider.

Praying for a good night's sleep for all of us!
Tracey

curleycue,

i meant elavil alone.I'm not sure if you can mix the two. Taking
the elavil early, say 7 ,prevents feeling zonked in the am. Most
ic patients fall asleep around 2am,interestingly. The other ladies
sound like they've got some good solutions, too. Another issues
w-ic is that we are sensitve to meds to start, then they quickley
loss their efficacy down the road.
