Hi i just got back from having my cysto/ hydro/ biopsy and the dr. wold not give me any pain meds. Is this common? I was in so much pain right after the procedures i thought i was going to burst. I had to pee but couldn't so i had to stay in recovery for a few hours. They finally gave me a medicine for the spasms and it helped but I wish i could take something for the pain.

Sorry, but in my book that is barbaric!!! I would call your primary Dr and see if they can call insomething....UROs seem to be more and more reluctant to prescribe, I just don't get it. I wonder if the guys getting terps and prostrate procedures go home with nothing. did you have this done in a hospital? if so, I would call the nurses station back and tell them how much pain you are in. They always advise calling back if you have issues.

Yes i had it done at a hospital and the nurse tried about 20 times to get him to give me something. He finally gave me Hyoscyamine 0.375 It helped with the spams but the pain is awful. I am headed to bed and hope when i get up I feel better. I have some percocet my obgyn gave me after i had my baby and i didnt take it all. Do you think it would be ok to take it?

:hi: and :welcome: to the ICN sorry i must have missed your first post. so i'm welcomeing you in this thread.
ALL of my hydro/cysto with or without an biopsy my doctor sent me home on pain medicine.
I haven't never heard of anyone else saying after his they didn't sent them home on some type of pain medicine this just doesn't sound right to me.
please don't sit there and suffer first i would call them back and say i'm sorry but I forgot to ask for something for pain for a few days to get me threw this and i'm suffering could you please call me something in if they say No. go to the e.r take your papers from where you just had this surgery and they should treat your pain.
there is a pat. bill of rights for pain suffer and you have the right to be treated.
sending you hugs and prayers
Rhonda

sorry i was posting at the same time you and betsie was so i didn't get to read your second post until now.
Please go on into the e.r to be treated for pain this just isn't right sounds like you have a quack for a doctor. I'm sorry to say that but that just isn't right remember you do have rights exp. after just haveing a surgery for crying out loud let that doctor be put on a table and cut on and see how he likes it to wake up and be sent home with no pain medicine.

I would absolutely take the percocet. However, do go to this site and just check your meds to be on the safe side, or call your Pharmacist to check interactions. I am pretty sure it would be fine with most drugs, but since you are asking, better to check...I use this whenever I am adding a new RX or need clarification.

I would for sure take it. No pain meds? Yeesh!!!! I would let my primary know, that is so unneccesary...and any nurse who has tended to me during this type of stuff has said make sure to take your pain meds....and often they are ticked at the Drs for not being more informative of the pain associated eith a procedure. Granted it is typically 48 hrs tops, but he sure could have prescribed at least for that time frame.

Maybe you could call your OB/GYN since she was willing to prescribe pain meds after your baby and see if she'd be OK with maybe doing it again in this situation?

I can't imagine a doctor refusing pain medications after a surgical procedure.

I hope you feel better very soon. I do agree that a call to your primary care doc might help.

I have had a few different surgeries and always prior to going into the operating room the doctor will discuss pain meds and give a perscription to your care giver. I don't know if your doctor forgot about this or not but yes, it's barbaric to not even give you that option if he didn't forget

I ended up taking the percocet and I am feeling much better. He said that he feels that it is a simple procedure and you don't need any pain meds. The nurse said she could not believe he wouldn't give me anything either but I made it thru and am feeling better. Thanks for your support.

My uro didn't give me pain meds after my hydro. But I wasn't in any pain at all from it. However may I suggest trying about 3 or 4 otc motrin. They are 200mg per pill and 3 of them would be equal to one script of 600mg and 4 would be equal to a 800mg. Usually motrin helps with me.

This is so terrible. You need to call and do something to get some pain meds. That is so bad. I would have died if I didn't have pain meds after my cysto w/hydro . I was in so so much pain and I am still am, after 14 days. At first, they gave me regulare vicodin, but that wasn't strong enough, so I had to go back and get the 10 mg Norco. It is a very, very painful procedure and you should have been given pain medication. I would go to the ER, call the surgeoun, I would just keep bugging them and bugging them until they give in. That is just barbaric, like someone else said.
Are you still in pain now?? Did you get a diagnosis of IC?? Let us know what happens
Love Sarah

Yes it was confrimed i have IC. I am only in pain now when i go to the bathroom. I talked to my primary dr. today and she said it was insane he didn't give me anything and if i decided i needed something to give her a call and she would call me in something. I feel 10 times better today so i figure i don't need anything now.
