I have to recommend this book to everyone, it is great. (Bought it on Amazon.com for about $10). The theory is, our bodies have way too much acid and they need to be Alkalized. I've been doing this program (not strictly, but about 80%) for a week and what a difference it has made!! I've totally changed my diet and my Ph levels are going up all the time. I am even recommending this book to my family members who don't have IC. I feel like I've been given IC as a "warning" from God, that I need to re-balance my body and take much better care of it, because I could have gotten something MUCH worse later on down the line if my body continued in this acidic state!
Thank you also to someone who recommended chiropractors. Mine is a DC and a holistic healer, she has me on much needed supplements and is so encouraging. She is also doing laser therapy and lots of adjustments and was the one to initially start me on checking my Ph daily. She is great!!!
Now, what a difference from the urologist who said "take Elmiron and don't eat these foods". In my opinion, most of the urologistsDr's just try to band- aid our disease instead of healing us from what is causing the disease in the first place. I had such a bad experience with the "normal" doctors, I knew there had to be more answers out there. It takes some time to find them, but they are out there and I have so much more hope now!!
Thanks for letting me share!!

Funny just having this discussion with my naturalpath today! The other day, even on 3 UROCIT-K, the IC diet and the drinking baking soda water, my ph was still a 5. Something is out of wack! I just came in here to look for answers! Thanks, I'll check it out!

Sorry if I'm cheating by not reading the book :) but I live in Australia and it's going to cost an awful lot to ship that book over here... could you just briefly tell me what fruits etc are alkalising??? it seems to be such a taboo subject on here. Whenever anybody starts to advocate eating these fruits and veg, somebody shuts it down preety quick. I'm sick to death of not being able to eat fruit!!!
Thanks so much,

I tried it, but too many items on the food lists hurt my bladder. On list one, she advises getting enough calories by using avocado as a staple. Avocado is an IC no-no, and it just about killed me. The supplements I tried also caused pain.
So, in the end, I've walked away with the basic message: eat a lot more vegetables and less meat, no refined flours or sugar, drink an alkaline water, and maybe someday I'll eventually be able to work in a couple of fruits. (My ph test strips shot up dramatically, just from switching waters from Ozarka to Fiji.)

I have the book. IC is such a mysterious disease that alternative ways of treating should not be overlooked.

I have tried it too and did not find it helped me. I think there is alot to IC and I don't believe anyone knows all the answers yet, but good luck feeling better!

Ordered the book today. Always interested in learning ways to tackle this illness.
It has been on my bookshelf for a while, and I'm going to start reading it now.

I found it, I just finished a book not that long ago which somewhat talks about the same things that this particular book talks about.
It is called Healing from the Inside Out by Adele Puhn. She has been a nutritional consultant for 20 years and has practices in the New York area. Her education list is long, I read about the book in a magazine so ordered out of interest.
She states no doctor can ever understand your body as well as you. How true. She thinks that a toxic body causes illnesses and diseases and goes into ways of eating to cleanse the body and repair the damage they have caused. There is no mention specifically of IC in the book but there are chapters on illnesses that seem to be a secondary to IC (for first) ie. IBS, Food allergies etc.
An interesting read if you are into these types of books. I have shelves upon shelves of these. Eck....soon will have my own book store.
