I have had a cysto and hydordistention every year for the past four years. My doctor uses them as a form of treatment. The streching things out, including my urethra, seems to help and lesson symptoms for a while. All have been just the cysto and hydrodestintion except one included the removal of a kidney stone. I am blessed with those too. I also have a biopsy every time too. All have been done with me completely asleep. Is this not an option with your doctor? They aren't really that bad. You heal pretty quick. The next few days may be a little uncomfortable when you go potty but we are all used to that right? Your doctor should also give you something to take to control any bladder spasms you have after the surgery. Mine are always pretty minimal. It's ok I promise! :)
