Hi all,
Well last night I finally broke down and went to the Er and was treated SO SO SO bad, I am still upset about it. I went in and wasnt even treated in the ER, i was sent to the urgent care. I gave a urine sample and a blood sample, which both came back negative. The doctor came in and instantly, I knew he didnt give a rats ass about me. He told me that the reason I was having pain so bad was that I was constipated!! He said the only thing they could do for me was to have an enima. I protested and protested, but he wouldnt treat anything else until I did the enima, so I did it. I went to the bathroom and was of course, still in terrible pain. So he came back in and seemed really angry that I was stil inpain. He told my hubby that the only thing wrong with me was that I am over medicated!! He said it was ridiculous that I was on so much medicine@!!! He absolutely refused to do anything else, even though I was literally begging to be admitted to the hospital, and sent me home! I waited FIVE hours and pain 50 dollars for nothing. He even told my husband that my surgery was "just" scraping and filling my bladder, and it wasnt too bad. My husband said " well have you ever had it done, because it seems really painful" to which he of course said no. Then he said, well of course you have some pain, it was a surgery, but you just have to wait it out.
I am so upset and literally losing my mind from pain. I dont know what to do! I was given freakin morphine and precocet when I had an ovarian cyst, and this is SO SO Much worse than that!! Why wont they help me.

Oh, Sarah. :( I hate to hear stories like this - so scary. I am sorry your pain wasn't taken seriously - he obviously knew nothing about IC.....

I am trying to remember - is your uro out of town? Do you have a good family doc? Can either help you with the pain???? :kissing:

((((((Hugs))))))) i hate to reads stories like this and have seen so many threw the years on here its an outrage!! please report this doctor to the hosp. head of boards sorry i forgot the right name for it. This hosp. need to learn more about I.C and its painful side effects. Yes in the pass i have went in to the e.r to be treated this way and the only hosp. around me that knows about i.c is a real long wait.
my study have show that one in ever seven women have i.c so i believe its time for these doctor's to get on the ball and learn that i.c can be painful and at times we do need more treatments to help with the pain. that doctor was just a JERK! i'm so sorry that was fifty dollars wasted and you didn't get no pain relief.
AS pain pat. we do have rights and when he didn't treat your pain he broke the pat. bill of rights for pain!
Please call your doctor today and try to get in there to get your pain under control you shouldn't have to suffer.
much love prayers and healing hugs headed your way

unfornately it happens all the time.either dr.'s don't know about IC or the don't give a darn about chronic pain patients. we must advocate for our selves and educate others about this disabling condition .sorry you had to go thru the experience. they are either ignorant about IC or simply have no compassion for other hunan beings. ---alicia

One time I went to see my local urologist for an instill. He came in looking distracted. I asked what was wrong. He said he was frustrated because one of his IC patients was in the ER and he had been on the phone with the ER doc & was having trouble getting him to understand that this patient needed treatment. How ridiculous - when doctors won't even listen to their colleagues on this!!!

I've only gone to the ER once for IC - before I was diagnosed. They gave me Percocet & an antibiotic even though no infection. (I turned out to be allergic to the antibiotic & got a rash & all over itching an hour later!) The insurance company tried to stick me with a big bill because there was no infection & therefore no need to have gone to ER. Fortunately, I'd documented the date, time, & recommendation by their helpline nurse who told me to go to ER. So, on appeal, they lowered the bill.

The only thing I can think to do if I ever go to ER is to take info on IC and my urologist's business card with the oncall number... I'm so sorry you had that experience. I hope as time goes on, doctors will be better educated...

Hoping you feel better soon!

Have you called your primary care physician? It may be time to find another urologist for a second opinion and your primary care doc is a good place to start. Also, a physician who knows you well is more comfortable ordering pain control medications for you.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

Warm hugs,
Donna
