I just wanted to share with everybody what meds work for me. I had a flare all through Novemebr and December. I lost 10 pounds in those two months because I was in so much pain. I drank water, ate organic chicken and organic brocolli or carrots. i had organic cooked oatmeal in the morning and for lunch organic pit abread, organic turkey meat, and cucumbers. That was literally my diet for two months. I went to three different doctors and the first two wanted to do invasive procedures. the first wanted to do ANOTHER hydrodistention and the second one wanted to do bladder instillations. I was not up for either and even though I was in pain, I searched for a doctor who would not give me ultimatums but was willing to work with me. the third doc put me on hydroxyzine, elmiron, and ditropan. The three combo worked! I have not had a flare up since late December. I have since then incorporated other foods in my diet but do not drink caffeine, eat chocolate, eat tomatoes or anything on that list. It took a few weeks for the stuff to kick in, but to everyone out there wanting to pull your hair out from the pain, remember it will pass. You have to have the right treatment and it's a matter of time before you find it. i was very skeptical of ever feeling normal again, and now I'm back to normal. (Knock on wood) This site has been a wonderful place to find out new info. if it wasn't for this site, I would have never known of all the treatment options. You have a right to a second opinion and it is important that you find a doc. who is willing to work with you.

Yay! Those very meds and elavil have helped me feel normal most of the time, too. Glad to hear you are having success with them, too. :)

Oh, and I take Detrol instead of Ditropan.

Ditto Elavil and Ditropan XL did the most for me so far, while I'm waiting for the Elmiron to kick in. My diet is still fairly strict, but I have had a flare since feeling better, but it passed after about a week. And it took major stress to bring it on, not just eating wrong. So don't panic if that happens....

And a lot of us who have been helped by Elmiron and have been on it 1+ years can eat a lot of no-no foods now. I waited a LONG time before I experimented - but I can eat anything now, 3 years later...

Now that is interesting to hear....it's been a year now and I'm not seeing much diference yet. But I am suddenly struggling with ibs too i think, and that sets of my ic. I'm heading out to their site to look around. I love hearing Elmiron success stories!

IBS will definitely send your IC into a flare. It never fails when one starts I always expect the other one to join in.
But with the right meds it can be controlled also....and of course the right diet.

Maja! I'm so glad you are feeling great! :) Elmiron, hydroxizine, and elavil-as needed, has helped me put tons of foods back in my life. Yay!
Like Kim said, you're kinda leary at first, and then you think, wow! I can eat this stuff again.......kinda empowering, huh?
Good luck to ya!! :grouphug:
