Hi All,
I'm going to be having sinus surgery this Wednesday. As my bladder only holds 180 cc's, and they pump you FULL of fluids, I have requested a pediatric foley to be put in when I say so (I'm thinking BEFORE I'm knocked out, in the hopes that they'll be more gentle) and taken out when I say so.
Should I ask for anything else in regards to the catheter?
Thanks so much....
Be well,
Mackie

Hi Mackie,
My biggest fear when having surgery has always been the terrible flares that would surely follow but earlier this year I had sinus and throat surgery and everything was much better. I asked the anesthesiologist to use a solution that had no potassium in it. I also asked the ent to have the catheter put in after I went to sleep and taken out before I woke up.
I think having a solution without potassium was the smartest thing I ever thought of. It was the first time since I was a child that I didn't have a horrible bladder flare following a procedure.
Good Luck,
Daffie

Thanks so much for the advice and support. Yes, I would rather have it put in and taken out while I'm knocked out, but I fear they'll be too rough -- I figure I can take the quick pain of it. Also, I think I'll probably need it for a while after I wake up and will safer with it left in a bit. As soon as I feel somewhat coherent, I'll have them take it out. Hopefully, I'll be able to "go" on my own....that's the worst part for me....Ugh!
Anyway, thanks again,
Mackie
