I absolutely love spagetti! I have not eaten any in over a year because I know that tomatoes are a big no no for me. Has anyone found a low acid sauce that isn't too bad for the bladder? Pre-lief doesn't seem to do the trick for me and I would love to try spagetti again but am afraid. Can you imagine being afraid of a food? Sometimes I think my life is just a bit wacky! We could make a horror movie for people with IC about a plate of spagetti!

I had spaghetti last night --- the way I like it is just the spaghetti with butter and a little extra salt. There are also some cream sauces that are good with pasta.

I know it's not tomato, but in addition to my IC, I'm highly allergic to tomatoes so it's never a temptation for me to try.

Hugs,
Donna

This works better with pasta that's not spaghetti, like penne or farfalle:

Sautee veggies like zucchini and mushrooms with garlic and basil or rosemary or whatever herbs you like in plenty of olive oil, then pour it over the pasta. Toss and add pine nuts and mozarella if desired. It's not tomato sauce, which is depressing, but my boyfriend actually likes it better.

When I sneak some tomato sauce (usually only a couple tbsp on my mountain of pasta, lol) I make my own from a couple cans of Hunt's Petite Diced Tomatoes (plain, not flavored), and a can of Contadina tomato paste, then season as I like it with garlic and lots of basil, a shot of vodka (alcohol cooks out), olive oil and some oregano. It's honestly just as fast as a jarred variety already prepared, just takes a few more minutes, mostly the can opening, lol, and the garlic chopping. I let it cook until the pasta is done...That's it. Before IC, my sweetie was skeptical on it, but now he prefers the "homemade" version instead of the already prepared stuff -- in fact, he's taken over the operation of making it...now we compete with who's was better! And I know exactly what's going in it...

I still, like I said, only stick with teensy amount, but with prelief, I haven't had too much trouble, the most I'll get maybe is an hour or so of my frequency being up, and that's it. To me, it's a small price to pay for my sauce! LOL And it's usually only once a week, and I am strict for a few days prior... no experimenting or known offenders, hee hee!!! :)

Everyone else in the family has the sauce and I have the noodles buttered and salted. Just used to it. I do miss the sauce, but I cannot tolerate any tomato. Not worth it.
