I had my my pre-op appointment today. I was not impressed with the nurse who works with my new uro. He is said to be the top specialist in this area. She's going through my medicine list and says your on dilaudid??? With a face of disgust. I said Yes and she then says who gave it to you.. answers her own question saying we didnot give it to you. I said my uro's in the past have prescribed it. She said really who I named them and she said why. I said for my IC and she said really for that? How long I said almost a year and she oh my... Talk about uncomfortable feeling for me. Then she goes on to say well is anything else wrong with you . Yes read my paper work and says oh my you have so much going on for a young age. But I cant understand why your on dilaudid.

As if we don't feel crappy enough the last thing needed is a healthcare worker who is cold and judgemental. If you can, it would be a good idea to let the uro know how uncomfortable his nurse made you feel. Her comments were at the very least unprofessional and insensitive.
Good luck with the cysto.

Lovely. I'm so sorry, Kelly. That was, I'm sure, the last thing you needed today. I agree with Jean; let your uro know how this nurse made you feel... he may have something to say to her after that!!

sorry kelly she sounds like she was off her rocker having a bad day or something or just plain out rude to everyone.
talk personally to your doctor and let him know how she made you feel and ask if there is someone else can help him that day.
she had no right to talk to you that way!
yes we may be young and Yes we do have a lot going on with our bodies but it isn't like we asked for it.
she needs to learn some bed side manners i understand we all have bad days and say things we shouldn't but when you have a job like that she needs to learn to bite her tonge very rude!!
Good Luck kelly i have been praying for you hon don't worry things will get better.

aaaw, I am so sorry Kelly. I have been through that too and it sucks!! Not to mention to have it coming from someone who is doing an upcoming surgery for you!! It is sad because I always feel so ashamed when I tell people I take pain medicine on a regular basis, especially if they find out how much I take.
So who is going to give you the medicine now?? If it came from previous uros, then this new one might now be willing to script it??? Grrr, this stuff makes me so mad. I wish those people could feel our bladders for just one day!!!
I agree with Rhonda that you should tell the doc what you are feeling and what she said, then ask him if he thought that was appropriate, given the situation.
Good luck with cysto/hydro though. I will be thinking of you.

I will talk to the uro probably not prior to my procedure Monday then I would feel uncomfortable but will talk to him on my follow up. I also see a pelvic pain specialist who with my old uro's office both wrote the script for me. I have a appointment with him next friday.

So sorry to hear that Kelly, unfortunately many in the health care profession are like that (I am in nursing school and have seen it soooo much and have experienced it as well). A good nurse would have understood that you are going through pain and should have gone deeper into that area with you to better understand how severe your flare ups were. Patients aren't just on pain meds because they want to be, you should definetely talk to the physician. You are not to be judged out of something imaginary that she is thinking, you are there to be HELPED! :help:
