Hey guys. Just wanted to ask a question...I finally got my SSD back payment last Thursday. Came at a perfect time thank godness. And I will start getting my monthly check every 4th Wed. of the month I am assuming starting with this month. Here is my question. I have kids 3 of them and I am wondering how SSD works with getting their check to you. I called my local office and she took down their info like SS # and so forth. She also set up a phone interview for next Thursday. Did anyone else have to go through this trying to get their kids benefits. Also do they also get Medicare? Of the 3 kids one is my stepson who lives with us. My 2 kids get Medicaid. With the state of Louisiana they look at just me and my kids as a family and then they look at my husband and Nick as a family. So with his income and 2 they make to much money for Nick to get Kid-med but my kids get it because even when I worked I still did not meet the income limits. That always confused me cuz if I cant afford it for mine I cant afford it for him. Thanks for any help

When i got approved for my ssd i had to set up an appt and a phone interview to get the children on a check after all that I got a letter saying yes they quailty (sp?) but I myself draw all that social serc. can pay.
gees.
They want get medicare only you will get that but if the income is low enough after you get your check they will still draw medicaid remember the limit are much higher for a child under the age 21, disable people, and preg women.
they all have higher ranks then someone that is that is healthy and over the age 21.
I hope this makes sinces.
here in south carolina they count what my husband makes and what i make together not as a sp. household.

I had to go through a phone interview for my kids last month. All they ask is if they're yours & when & where they were born & are they in your custody - things like that. I got their back pay a couple weeks later. I don't know about the Medicaire. My kids have insurance through my husband's work.

I had my phone interview in January, the 24th I think. I was told at that time that the kids would each get $143.00 a month and that it was to be used for 'their benefit' which could be rent, food, clothes, etc. Ok, so my rent is 300 a month and their checks total 286 a month. I think that's do-able. :) I will get the first check March 3rd.
I do not get Medicare for 24 months. The kids have AR Kids, which is like medicaid here. I don't have anything.
I did get SSI pay a week ago for the months of October, November, December, January and February. Then I got a letter saying that I would get a SSI check for March. Then I got another letter the next day saying that I don't qualify for SSI in March because that's when my disability checks start. DUH. I think someone fired off that letter without checking all their facts first. No big deal to me. It's just a waste of $$ for them to act so quickly without chekcing things out.
Anyway, the kids' SSI/Disability interview is a piece of cake. Just have their SSN's and DOB's handy. :) Michelle

Thanks everyone I was not sure if this was normal or not. I guess it is. Things are so backwards when it comes to this SSD stuff. I still have not got a letter telling me how much I would get a month. I did get one giving me my password for the internet and stuff. Thats how I found out how much I would get and when. Stupid huh. Thanks again
