My sister Janice and I have been attending a number of specialty shows looking for new products that might be helpful. We've found some exciting new foods that will be appearing on our site shortly!

The International Fancy Food Show was held in San Francisco two weeks ago. Now, just imagine walking into the Moscone Center, where 4,000 + food vendors eagerly await your arrival with free samples. Oh my gosh! You would not have believed it. From fresh cheeses from England to the finest international chocolates (which, of course, I couldn't sample), this was a food lovers paradise. Our goal was to be able to walk out the door without a stomach ache. We tried everything from organic jerky to dozens of cookies.... candies... nuts... jams... jellies.... and even some meats. Luckily, no stomach ache was experienced... except that caused by the traffic in downtown San Francisco on a rainy afternoon!

We found several products that we'll be bringing to you shortly!

(1) THE COLD BREW COFFEE SYSTEM - a "cold brew low acid coffee maker" for under $40.00. This is VERY EXCITING. Their cold brew process removes 67% of the acid in normal coffee. Just imagine.... that if you start with the already low acid coffee beans from Euromild, then this could be a great way to have a tasty, low acid but real coffee.

Anticipated arrival in our shop - 1 week! I ordered 8 yesterday and expect them to fly out the door! So, if you want one... make sure that you reserve it by emailing: shipping@ic-network.com. We'll let you know when they arrive and what the costs will be. (We're not sure how much it weighs, therefore can't give you shipping prices until we get them)

(2) THE NEW HEALTHY WATER BOTTLES
--- POLYCARBONATE AND STAINLESS STEEL!
A couple of months ago, I read a news story where they talked about how dangerous it was to reuse the cheap, plastic water bottles that we buy in the store. They were very concerned about high levels of bacteria growth. There's now a new effort to use polycarbonate and stainless steel bottles instead. They don't let plastic or metal leech into the water. No dangerous chemicals. Easy to carry with you. And, the larger polycarbonate bottle is the perfect way to measure your daily water intake! These are now in stock and VERY INEXPENSIVE!!!

1 liter poly - $4.49
2.5 liter poly - $6.49
1 liter stainless steel - $17.99
Now available in our shop! http://www.icnshop.com

(3) LARABARS - I was the most excited about these all fruit and nut natural snack bars. No preservatives, flavorings, sugars, etc. They have three flavors that seem to be pretty IC friendly: Apple Pie, Banana and Cherry Blast. I tried them.. didn't bother me at all. Love them all!!! Yum.... very flavorful... almost like eating a slice of fresh carrot cake. That kind of consistency. I think a huge plus is that they don't have any other chemicals in them.... thus the acid load seems less.
Arriving soon!

(4) INFUSED OLIVE OILS FOR SALAD DRESSINGS - We've finally found a couple of brands of olive oils that make an infused "basil" flavored olive oil that will be perfect for salad dressing. Interestingly, alot of the oils that we tried were very sharp and bitter. But, we've got two brands that show great promise!
Arriving soon!

(5) ALMONDINA Cookies - You know those times when you need an afternoon "pick me up" but just don't want alot of sugar. Almondina makes a preservative free cookie bar that has very little sugar. It's basically almonds, raisins ... very thin, crispy and quite flavorful cookie! We think you'll like them because you won't get the bloats after eating them... like you do when you eat a heavy sugar snack!
Arriving soon!

Our quest for more pear products failed miserably. We found only two new pear jams/butters from Oregon. Unfortunately, they were both pretty acidic. Yummy but acidic. One was a pear hazelnut jelly. The other a great pear butter!

We'll be attending the International Organic Food Show in March and hope to find even more yummy products.

That's the news from the ICN offices, where the daffodils are blooming, the hummingbirds are flitting from tree to tree and the cats (I hope are) lay snoring at our home up on the hill.

Actually, I was the member who mentioned these and wanted to request the same thing. They're my favorite candy now. The three flavors that are IC-friendly are Cashew Vanilla, Cashew Almond, and Sesame Almond. Here's a link to the website. They're made by Golden Temple of Oregon:

Jill, I am so excited that you decided to carry the Coffee Toddy. As I told you, I have one and I love it. The coffee it makes tastes better than regular hot brewed coffee. It tastes like really fancy coffee at a fine restaurant.

It works like this: you get coffee and make sure the grind is very course (you usually have to get beans and grind yourself or grind at a store that allows you to pick the grind-I always set it as course as it will allow). Then you pour the entire pound of coffee into the coffee toddy with 6 cups of cold water and allow it to stand for 12 to 18 hours. After that, you drain it out past a filter into a pitcher which comes with the toddy - it is a concentrate that you add to water and it keeps in your fridge for weeks. I think it's one part concentrate to 3 parts water for the perfect cup of coffee. You can also add it to milk and pour it over ice for the best iced coffee you've ever tasted (I add a little brown sugar to mine...yum!)

All this and 67% less acidity. What more could us ICers who love coffee want! Another perk: (no pun intended!) in the morning you don't have to get up and brew coffee - just pour the concentrate and water into your coffee cup and microwave it. It's ready in 2 minutes!

I highly recommend the Coffee Toddy.
You won't regret it if you order one.

I got a coffee toddy but i must have done something wrong. Do you leave the stopper in the bottom and then take it out?

Yes, you leave the stopper in the bottom while the coffee steeps. Did you get instructions inside your box? It tells you how to install the filter and clean it, and how much coffee to use and how long to let it sit. It also has recipes for different kinds of coffee, like iced coffees and such.

If not, here goes:
You get one pound of coursely ground coffee. Before you pour it into the toddy, you install the round filter into the bottom by pressing it into the round depressed area so that it is snug, then you put the plug in.
From here, follow the instructions found at http://www.toddycafe.com/customerservice/instructions.php

Once I have the concentrate, I use a measuring cup - 2 oz. of concentrate and then fill with water to the 8 oz. mark which is 6 oz. water (one part concentrate to three parts water). Then I microwave it for a minute or two and "viola!", the perfect cup of low-acid coffee!
The concentrate should be kept in the refridgerator and will keep for 2 weeks.

Hope this helped. Once you get the hang of it, you'll love this thing.

Just be sure to put the cork in from the outside so you can pull it when it's time for the coffee to drain through the filter.
