Hello I wonder if anyone can help me to know if this is a diagnosis or not?
Today I received a letter in answer to some questions i sent to my doctor after having cystocopy hydrodistention and biopsy.
The letter said that indeed interstitial cystitis is one possible diagnosis, that my symptoms and clinical findings support this but the biopsy is less supportive as they would expect to see more marked inflammatory changed.
They said that under anaesthetic my bladder full capacity held 350ml so i have a very small capacity. After the operation i was told that along with chronic bladder inflammation they found some pinpoint bleeding.
So from this what would you say? Do you have to have a biopsy for a diagnosis?
Thank you

I would say so when I had my hydro done I only held 200cc and they stretched my bladder to 400. But as far as biopsy I don't think the biopsy was done for the diagnosis of IC. Usually that is done to check your bladder for cancer and such. From my understanding the only test to prove the IC is the hydro.

It sounds like it could be IC, just continue to work with your Dr. and see where he goes with it. One other test they use to test for IC is called Potassium Sensitivity. They instill it and water into your bladder separately to see if the potassium hurts your bladder. It can be done in the office.

when i had mine the doc also did a bio and he said he saw the mast cells which support IC. he also said it was ic before he had the bio results he said he knew by the way my bladder looked to me it looked as if someone had smeared blood all over it. or mabey it looked like mars or something with the red smears and blotches all over any way . I hope your one of the lucky ones who dosen't have it.

good luck :grouphug:

Sounds like IC to me too. You don't really need a biopsy to confirm IC -- I've never had one. When the urologist who diagnosed me did my cysto/hydro, he saw massive bleeding and scar tissue... and didn't bother taking a biopsy because it was pretty obvious what the problem was. He figured I'd be in enough pain without him taking a chunk of tissue out!

When I had my h/d, I hed 850, I had pinpoint bleeds and glumerations, Uro said classic signs of IC, I did not have a biopsy.
