I saw my uro today. A doctor who I used to work for. I've assisted him with in office cystos and swore that if I ever needed one that there would be no way that I would have it done with NO general anestetic. He told me that he now used this flexible scope and promised me that he wouldn't hurt me. When I assisted him he only used the rigid one and it looked painful. Should I believe him, that it's not going to hurt. I'm so nervous.
Please advise

For me a cysto is about the same as a catheter. If I concentrate on relaxing, it's uncomfortable, but not horrible.

I've never had a cystoscopy in the office while awake, so I can't help you there. However, many patients say that they felt some pain, but not a lot with the flex scope. I'm sure more people will come along and share their experiences with you! Good luck :grouphug:

I agree with Donna. It's soft and flexible, more like a catheter. Nothing like a metal scope.

I didn't know there was a flexible scope. I bet my uro's office uses a rigid one, but will double check.

If you think you have IC, don't bother with the in-office scope, skip to the hydro with scope. The in office one is way too painful and won't show any IC signs. Flexable has to be better than rigid.

I agree with Donna. Relaxing is the key. I have had many cysto's in office. Valium works also.

Hello:
I went to my Uro and he is doing this in the office as well. I used to have 2 a year under anesthesia and skipped last year. I am really scared to have it done. On his last report he wrote that I experience pain under anesthesia so I do not get it. I am not sure how they know this. There is a longer wait for the hospital procedure and I was not offered it. He told me he would use a flex scope and if it hurt he will stop.
1.) Question: Is the flex scope a new procedure?
2.) Question: do they put something in the bladder as well as the urethra
3.) Question: I have Hunners removed do they do this in the office?
Last month I had the worst flare (3 weeks) ever the pain was worst I have experienced. I took 4 B & Os and had a shot of Morphine and ocxcotin one day and it made very little difference. I take 3 - 4 B & Os daily for pain.
I hope your procedure goes well, mine is in April. I welcome any emails.
God Bless, yvonne
