Hi all,
I am SO nervous because my cysto w/hydrodistention and biopsy is tomorrow. They still haven't called me to tell me what time to come in, but hopefully I will hear soon. I hope I am in the AM, because I hate waiting when you can't eat!!!
I am a little nervous because my uro refused to give me pain meds for the procedure. When I asked for them, you should have seen the look on his face, he just looked SO surprised I would have asked. Then he said " what for" and I said well the pain from the procedure. Then he said " what pain from the procedure??" and I asked " well why do you put me to sleep" and he said because this hurts really bad if you are awake. Then I said WELL THERE YOU GO!!!! But he said I didn't need them. I do have my regular vicodin from my ob/gyn, so hopefully those work. OR, hopefully I am one who has very little pain from it.
I did want to ask how long most of you were in the hospital/recovery room. I know some said they stayed the night there. I hope I can go home. last time I had surgery, they were practically hurrying me out the door. They couldnt wait for me to leave!!!
Wish me luck.
love Sarah

Sarah,
I have had this done 4 times so far, and usually spend an hour in the recovery room and maybe 45 minutes in the same day surgery area to prove I can eat, drink, and pee. All in all, maybe 2 hours post op and I am out the door. PM me your number and I will call you(I have unlimited long distance) and try to answer your questions. I know you'll do well.

Hugs :kissing:  :grouphug: ,

Sara
calm down you'll be fine and if the pain is that bad for you afterwards go to the er where the procedure was done and tell them they'll help you. Thats a last ditch effort though. Your going to be fine. I had my first last month,

Good luck and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Gosh, I'm not sure how long I was in the recovery room..... Maybe an hour or so? I know once I was up and peed once or twice I was on my way home.

One thing you might want to do is leave a list of questions with the person who goes with you --- that way when the doctor is finsihed that person can ask the questions. You'll probably still be a little loopy so it's nice to have someone who isn't coming out of anesthesia to ask the questions. LOL

You'll be fine!!!! My uro didn't offer me pain meds and acted like he was humoring me by giving me 3 days' worth, but I was glad he did. He gave me Vicodin.

I had the same experience as Babs. At the hospital at 6:00 am and home by 10:00 am. My uro showed me the picture of my bladder, with glomerulations, in post-op and the nurse gave me two scrips as I left, one for Vicodin and one for an antibiotic. Pamper yourself for a few hours after. You may feel fine and only need the day for the anesthesia to wear off. But it is surgery and you should plan to take it easy for a couple of days. The couch, an ice bag and the vicodin became my best friends. Hope your procedure goes well tomorrow. Let us know how you are doing. You can PM me if you have questions.

thats a really good idea leave a list of questions and tell them to write down the answers I didn't and nobody seemed to have the answers except that i had IC and thats all I knew untill 2 weeks later when I saw the doc.

Yeah, I had a VERY vague memory of seeing my uro in the recovery room and him showing a nurse the pictures of my bladder and explaining to her what IC was. Even if I had remembered some of my questions to ask him - I probably wouldn't have remembered his answers! :)

Thanks guys!! I am trying not to be nervous, but I have to admit, I get leery when someone insists the procedure "wont hurt at all", when I have heard it is painful!! Hey, maybe I will be one of the lucky ones who actually gets better from it!!
Yeah, he definatly said NO WAY to the pain meds after, so i hope my regular vicodin does work well.
I have to admit too that the thing I am most scared of is that he will come in and say "nope, I changed my mind, you dont have IC!!!" But, I have no control over that, so if it happens, it happens!!
I hope I dont sound too stupid, but what is PM???? Just wondering. Thanks everyone! I will write ASAP after the procedure.
Love Sarah

Hi Sarah- PM means "personal message" I haven't had this done yet, so I have no info for you, but I think it will probably be similar to my laporoscopies. Whoever said to have a list of questions written down was a GENIOUS. I remember asking my doctor the same thing over and over again and still not remembering what he said. I was pretty loopy, and he said, "ask your husband when you get home. He will remember what I say, but you will not.

I know how scary unfamiliar things can be, and I will be rooting for you! :grouphug:

Click on the username of the person you want to PM. It will take you to a different screen where you can write a message or ask a question only that person can see. Watch out though, once you catch on the mailbox really fills up fast and you have to clean it out. Really cool for getting to know people in your area or who have similar interests.

Happy PMing,
Linda

Oh and by the way, if they try to give you cranberry juice after the uro tells you you have IC, DON'T drink it. Cranberry juice it the number one thing to avoid if you have IC. I did drink it after my hydro and think it made the recovery worse. Just drink water! My thoughts will be with you tomorrow and hope it goes smoothly.

I'm among those who stay in the hospital overnight after a hydrodistention. And my uro does give me pain meds for afterwards. I usually don't need more than one or two, but it's good you have some vicodin "just in case."

Warm hugs,
Donna
