View Full Version : Nuva Ring
Has any one used the birth control, Nuva Ring with any success and/or failure? Haven't been able to find any information about it's effects on IC.
Thanks.

I used it for about a month before I got my IUD. I couldn't get my IUD right away and I couldn't tolerate birth contro pills, so they gave ma a trial one. I didn't have any problems, but this was before IC and I was only on it one month. Do you tolerate birth control pills well? Now that you mention it, I may try this method again. I am concerned about the risk of infection while putting it in, taking it out. Please keep me posted as to how this works for you. Good Luck! :)

There is another thread on nuva rings in the self strategies section on the boards. It was started under estrogen and a few responses were given there.
Check it out and see if you can find some others answers there. :)

I tried it but it did not work that well for me. My GYN wanted me to use it continuously, though, (replacing it of course)... in an effort to eliminate my periods. I found that it fell out quite often and that my endometriosis symptoms did not improve. I don't recall it having an affect on my IC but it definately did not improve my other symptoms.... I also had some spotting etc... Anyways..

I must be out of the loop a bit. I have never heard of this method of birth control. I have always been one of those kind of people that doesnt' like to have to "stick" something in there. Even the sponge or diaphram kinda wierded me out.....lol
I have been using it for over 6 months and have not had any problems. I could not take bc pills because they gave me miagrines. I have not had any problems with slipping or even feeling it. My dh says he doesn't feel it either. I guess everyone is different.

Birth control pills give me migraines too. Anyone try the Ortho Evra patch?

I have used almost every form of birth control.... nuva ring I found is the best only because I only have to remember once a month to change it. (It was nice to reduce my pill regimen a little bit). The trick is you can't be squeemish... you have to almost fold it in half and really stick it up there.
I've been on it for about eight months and have felt no changes due to it's use.
However... I'm looking at the package insert right now and it says two things that are iffy... " Fluid retention- steriod hormones like those in nuvaring, may cause some degree of fluid retention. Perscribe with caution.... Vaginal use- Nuvaring may not be suitable for women with conditions that make the vagina more susceptible to vaginal irritation or ulceration."
So.... talk to your doctor about it....
(And about the sex thing... it's safe to remove it for less than three hours, so you can take it out just for the ocassion... just remember to put it back it)

I have been on the NuvaRing for right at a year now with pretty good success. I have had a lot less problems than with previous pills. I've had the bloating, weight gain, acne, migranes and one of my least favorite side effects "personal dryness". I was taking Yasmin for a year before the ring and my doctor had me taking them so that I only had a period every 3 months. That helped with the pain I was having, but after about 6 months I started to notice the dryness issue. It took a while for it to dawn on me that it might be caused by my pill. I am also using the nuva ring for 3 months straight and my periods are almost non-existent. I haven't had any acne, minimal cramping, no migranes and my personal dryness issues cleared up in the first month. I wanted to try the patch because I am horrible about remembering pills, but my doctor wouldn't prescribe it. At the time the news had just started to come out that there might be a problem with it putting people at a higher risk for blood clots. I felt weird about putting it in and asked my husband several times in the first months if it bothered him during sex. Neither of us seems to notice it. I would say that it is slightly uncomfortable for about 5-10 min. after putting it in until it finds a good place to stay. I also found the first two or so to be more bothersome. I finally learned that I needed to push it in farther. It is sort of like a tampon in the way that not all tampons fit everyone the same way. I can use O.B. without even noticing, but Tampax just want to fall out. As with any medication though, talk it over with your doctor and if you try it and it makes you uncomfortable....use something else! Good Luck

I tried it for a couple of months, but like mkassis, it always felt like it was falling out and I was constantly trying to push it back up and get it to stay. It was also uncomfortable for me during sex, and I think it bothered my husband a little.

I have also been on the ring for years. I started on it about the time the patch came out. I went to planned parenthood to get off the pill and on to the patch. The lady told me that they didnt always have it in stock and recommened the ring to me. I LOVE IT!!! I just have to mark on my calendar the days that I have to put it in and the day I take it out.
I asked my fiance if he ever notices it. He said no. It has only fallen out once during sex. And that happend to be the day before it was due to come out so I just left it out.
If youre not squeemish about putting your fingers inside you to get this thing in the right spot, then I highly recommend it.
