as many of you know i'm having surgery tuesday there doing a leap,laparotomy,hydo/c. removal of hunner uclers again and any scar tissue that they can find.

my question is for those of you who have had the leap and the lap. done is it going to hurt real bad after surgery? how long was you down after the surgery? did you get to come home or did you stay over night for pain control?

for what i read the leap isn't no big deal it want be to painful and i have already had they hydo/c. and removal of hunners done two times before this and i'm here to tell you its no pinic when you wake up after this it hurts!!

but i'm really worried about the lap and the leap being done i don't know what to expect.

The gyn said I should be able to come home after surgery but they will have to see how I do.

any advice ladies??
tell me what happen to you??
Should I be freaking out over this??

Please give me advice.

Rhonda,
I have had at least 8-10 laps since I was 14--one in which I lost an ovary and tube and while I was sore(not really pain, just like I had done too many sit ups and push ups)it was nothing. I think I only took pain meds the first day and felt pretty ok by the next morning and up to speed in a couple of days. The wounds are small, and the worst part is the shoulder pain. When they do a laparoscopy they inject carbon dioxide gas through one of the trochar inserts(holes) and inflate your belly with up to 4L of the gas to push your abdominal organs off your pelvic organs. The gas in turn irritates your phrenic nerve which gives you referred pain in your shoulders. That was the worst part it for me. I felt like I had done a zillion push ups. Hope that helps, the LEEP is quick too and usually painless. Good luck.

Hugs,
Barb

Thanks barbs that makes me feel a bit more easy about it.

Barb if they find something else wrong while there in there will they most likely go ahead and fix it.
or if the endomsriosis is to bad when they find it will they go ahead and do a hysterectomy?? or do they wait to talk to you after you wake up??

he said most likely i would be able to come home after this done.
my uro will be wrapping things up with the hydo/c and the removal of hunners.
so i don't know if they are both going to talk and see what is best for me or not.

I don't know to back for a night stay in the hosp or not.

Oh since they will be blowing my stomach up with gas how long will it take for my stomach to go back down will i look like i'm preg. after this is done?
should i take my p.j's with me so when i'm getting ready to come home i will have something lose on or should i take a gown with me instead.
Barb please email me at dixiefireball@nuvox.net
as soon as you can I need someone to talk to about all of this i'm going in the morning for pre op. since they was dragging thursday when i was there i have to go back to get it done in the morning so i can go in tueday for the surgery.
Oh and the gyn said i would also have to use a fleet. monday night before the surgery tuesday why do i have to clean my self out before this surgery?

Rhonda, They did go ahead and laser my Endo during the diag Lap. Like I posted before I went to work the next day and was fine. The shoulder dicomfort from the gas is the worse I agree but not untolerable. Most people don't even require a work slip if they are at a low level job and work load isn't hard with heavy heavy lifting. You know what tyo exspect with the Hunners and that i expect will be the worst of it. You really are going to be fine, and this prodcedure is so minimal and very routine. The minimal pain meds should handle this. I even did it with regular Tylenol once.

Hi hon. Sorry I missed you earlier. I was laying down with Shelbs. You have every right to feel nervous and apprehensive about something you're having done and being unfamiliar about, however, I agree with Barb. You're gonna be sore but some of the toughest part is getting rid of the carbon dioxide and like I told you before it usually passes out your shoulders and even though you can breath, if feels like you cant. Tell the anesthesiologist that you've heard this had happened before and they might be able to do something to eliminate this aftermath, I don't know. I've had probably 15 laps since I was 18 so I know what's it's like. I never had to do an enema before hand with anyone them but then again every doctor is different and hospital pre-op instructions.

I have zero tolerance for pain and if it were me having all that done, I'd be staying but you're alot stronger than me so you might be surprised and feel good enough to go home to your family and sleep in your own bed.

I know it's hard, but try to relax. Let go and let God, my Granny always says. Basically don't worry about it cause you can't change the outcome.

I'm guessing if they thought it was that bad they would of talked to you about hysterectomy long before now. From my experience, I was left to stay asleed and Jon & my Mom were there and they had to make the decicion on the partial. They can just take your uterus and cervix you know. You don't have to have your ovaries removed which will spin you right into surgical menopause and I can tell you first hand that isn't anything you really want to experience - it's HELL! :cussing:

Call or buzz me tomrrow and we'll talk. Around 11 or 11:30 should work, k?

Hang in there honey, you can do this. I have a feeling everything's going turn out okay. Just expect to be sore for a few days and you already know what the hunner removal feels like that = I don't know pain wise what that relates to having a laprascopic surgery so I can't tell you if recovery is worse or less intense. Try to quit fretting, I'll be here if you want to talk.

Talk to you tomorrow. ;) :)

Love,
Tracy

Cyber angel to watch over you, great big hug to ease your tensions and kiss on the cheek just because I care so much. Just remember only you can decide if you should stay or not. If you go home and the kids and Jeff are going to bother you, then I would ask to stay at least one night and get some much needed rest before returning home to your kids, k?

I have had a hydro and lap under different dates. Please make sure you read any pre-op forms you have signed. Before my lap, the pre-op forms gave the doc permission do do a hystorectomy and just about anything else. Yes, there are doctors who will just biopsy endometriosis and then not remove it because they don't know how to do it. Please make sure the appropriate doctors are in present, so you don't have to have a second surgery. (Remember, at most hospitals doctors are paid per surgery.)

Please, please be careful and understand what the doctors are going to do or not do before going into surgery, even if you have to hold it off.

Take care and best wishes,

Rhonda,

While I did not have this type of procedure, I have had a lap done. I had one when my appendix needed to come out, and my abdomen was full of fluid, and two cysts. They did the lap to go look at them and take them out if needed. All I remember is having some pain for a few days after at the very least, in my abdomen, but my situation is very different, I didn't have that LEAP that you are going through. :( Be sure you get a good IV...they had me on a Potassium IV, and I was urinating like every 15-30 minutes and could not figure out why!

I hope all goes well, good luck :grouphug:

Hugs,
Jess

I'm thinking since they have decided now to have my surgery one at four and the other at five thirty they may keep me most of the late surgeries the pat. ends up admitted for over night pain control in a way i hope they do this in another way i hope they send me home so i can rest in my own bed and my husband and kids will be with me.
i'm really confused at this moment to what i really want to do guess i will decided once i wake up tomorrow.
i have to be at the am per. place at two p.m

Thanks for your advice also all information helps I really want to know what to expect before i wake up and don't know why i'm hurting and stuff like that.

Rhonda,

I think if it were me, I would want to stay over-night. That way, you've got nurses you can buzz to help you get to the bathroom, give you medication, and basically wait on you hand and foot. You'll obviously be very sleepy and groggy after all that surgery, but at least in the hospital they can keep up with your pain and give you the shots as needed, as well as keep tabs to make sure you don't get an infection.

I know, though, how you want to be home. When I was finally discharged from the hospital, I could've kissed the ground LOL!

Hugs,
Jess

I have had a couple laps done and I never got the shoulder thing everyone talks about. I had problems on my left side so they spent more time "looking around" and messing with my ovary on that side. I was really sore on the left side for about four days, then I couldn't even feel it. It felt like I had done about 5,000 crunches!!!
Overall, it wasnt really big deal. I do think that it will be a bit harder on you because you are having so many things done at once.
Let us know how it goes.
I will be thinking of you and sending you warm wishes
Love Sarah
