Ok one big question "HOW DOES SWIMMING EFFECT IC'ERS". :hmm:
Does the chlorine cause a problem? Wet swim suit cause a problem? I have two little boys who love to go to the pool and I am really concerned about adding fuel to the fire. This last summer I was really uncomfortable down in my personal area when I had my swimming suit on.(the tightness and the constant wetness) We just moved and they have a subdivision pool and all the kids are always going swimming. HELP.. :help:

Cinder,
Can you guess what I'm about to answer your question with? ;)
So many ICers are very much different in this area. This has been the topic of discussion for years, especially when spring is coming.
I flare everytime I get in a public pool. Those pools always overdo it with the chlorine. If there is a strong smell of it, I've learned to sit by the side and dangle my feet in.
I've never had trouble when my last home had a pool. We used bacquacil instead of the chlorine. It was much easier on the bladder.
As for the wet and tightness of your suit......never sit in the wet suit. When you are finished swimming, go straight to the bathroom and change into dry clothing.
Not only can your IC flare, but it is a great time for bacteria to start up and cause a yeast infection.
Have you ever used board shorts instead of a bathing suit bottom? I'm not a bikini person, so I've been using board shorts and a tankini top when I'm on the lake. The shorts are much better than the tightness of the bottoms.
Maybe that would help.........good luck! :) I hope you're a lucky one and can dive right in! ;)

I can go swimming if I immediately change out of my wet suit after swimming. I can't sit around in a wet suit. I urinate immediately after swimming --- then get dressed in dry clothing.
Donna
Living in Florida I pretty much live in the water in the summer and like Donna as long as I don't sit too long in a wet suit and pee right after swimming I have never had a problem. I am one of the lucky ones on that aspect. I also grew up on a swim team and never had any problems...
