I just got off anti-biotics for a UTI,FIRST one since IC dx,
I can tell the difference now between just IC stuff and UTI and IC, OWSERS! :cussing:But now my guts are acting up bad and have been for about 4-5 days.Started the day before or day of my last dose.GI had me do a c dif culture but it takes 5 days to get back.I have had anti-biotic induced c dif before but it put me in the hospital for a week, and I was very, very sick......so I don't think that is it.Does anyone else seem to get more problems with their IBS when they are anti-biotcis or after ???
I am normally constipated, but here lately when I get anti-biotics for something,I get really bad cramps, and loose stool for days afterwards.I been having problems with my Effexor XR coming out in my bm's,and last night I seen what looked like the pieces of the capsules to my Neurontin.I seem to not digest some foods completely either.I been through tons of tests past almost 2 yrs....looking for Crohns disease or any other Inflammatory Bowel Disease, but they all been negative....(Long story but in 03 I was hospitilized 3 times within like 4-5 months for bleeding ulcers in colon, then in Aug 04 for bleeding ulcers in rectum) GI thinks my IBS is just so severe and the constiaption so severe it causes this.I was told all kinds of other things before, like Ischemic Colitis,Infectious Colitis, been to 3 GI's, and no real answers. So frustrating! :headbang: .....sorry got on a vent haha...

antibiotics kill good bacteria as well as bad bacteria, that's why we get yeast infections. those good bacteria also regulate your intestines. you might ask your doctor for a prescription pro-biotic, if he won't give you that, try taking acidophilus.

I agree on trying probiotics. I've been taking Primal Defense (probiotics) from the Garden of Life supplements for months now. It has GREATLY improved my IBS symptoms - almost to where they're non-existant. As an added bonus, I made it through a round of anti-biotics without getting a yeast infection.

I was on Cipro but the last dose was over a week ago.Guts finally stopped acting up yesterday....***keeping fingers crossed they stay that way*** But also thinking that the 3 days of Cipro did not kill the UTI.I am having that really bad pain again like I did before I went to get urine checked.

Char Ann, were those bleeding ulcers ever biopsied? If not, you NEED to be checked by colonoscopy with biopsy. Your gastro must determine if your symptoms are caused by the powerful antibiotics, or inflammatory bowel disease. You may need to change gastros, but don't give up.

Char ann, infectious colitis can be diagnosed with a stool culture. Have you had one?
