My doctor just gave me a device today to use for home therapy since I wanted to cut down the office visits. I have been going once a week since october, and am doing much better. :woohoo:
The device is called PMTx Pelvic Muscle Therapy and there is a toll free number to call if you are interested it is: 888-442-pmtx
I've just started using it but it seems to work well. The kit comes with an instructional video, the trainer, and manual and it is pretty easy to use.
Just thought I would share the info with you (really I get no kickbacks from any sales!) I haven't tried calling the number, I bought mine from my doctor, I don't even know if the cost would be the same.
Have a great day!

Hi Jen G. I was wondering if the Pmtx Pelvic Muscle Therapy device is the same one you bought from your doctor. I mean like is it the same brand? I live in California, too so I was wondering if like I can maybe order it from your doctor or something. My uro reffered me to pelvic physical therapy but my sh**y insurance isn't covering it so I think that the best thing to do is to just buy that device. Thanx a bunch!!!

Hi Vicky,
The device the doctor sold me is also available from the toll free number 888-442-PMTx. You could also try ordering it from my doctor, Dr. Carter at the Women's Health Center in Mission Viejo 949-364-5802. I'm not sure if the shipped price would be the same as buying it direct from him.
I know what you mean about the **** insurance company, I see Dr. Carter out of pocket, my insurance won't cover it.
Hope you get the help you need!

I checked out the companies website and it is for weak pelvic floor muscles and does the same as kegal exercises. I have PFD which in my case my pelvic floor is in a knot which causes pelvic pain. I'm a little confused because I was told a device that is for people with Incontinence and I don't have that problem. I guess PFD has many different problems all rolled into one. Are you using the device for Incontinence? Sorry just a little confused.

Hey Kristen,
Sorry for the confusion. I also started my PFD diagnosis with my pelvic floor being tight in a knot. What helped to loosen and relax my pf muscles was the biofeedback therapy I was doing. Basically they are kegals with an electronic feedback device inserted in the vagina and connected to a computer. Once I learned how to tighten and relax my muscles the propper way the knot loosened up. It turns out I was completely backwards! When I thought my muscles were relaxed, they were really tensed, when I thought I was squeezing, I was really relaxing! Even though the home device the doc sold me is mainly for strengthening the pelvic floor against incontinance, I do not have a problem with incontinance. I do believe by continously working with those muscles, I will avoid getting that tight knoted muscle back.
I hoped that explained things a little better! Take care.

Hi Ladies,
My daughter has been diagnosed with IC, Endo, and PFD....she has constsnt pain...diet doesn't seem to matter and hte last doc she saw says her major pain is from her pelvic muscles. She is to start PT soon..He said her pelvis is out of alignment..her sacroilliac joints are misaligned...her back hips hurt...cramping abdomen etc...the list goes on...any suggestions for her ? She is on a major regimen of meds for her IC.plus heavy duty narcotics for pain that only make life tolerable but unable to live ooutside the house. She is only 21 and the last year has been hell for her...losing her job, friends, quality of life is none...we are desperate at this point..seeing great doctors though...

I just called that number to see about the home device. I do not have IC, but do have bad PFD. I go to therapy frequently and have found it to be helpful. Ironically, I had a BAD migraine flare a few weeks ago and took a high dosage of prednisone for one week and it completely stopped my PFD for that week. But the Dr. said I can't safely take pred. for long periods of time. The PF therapy is costly and time consuming, so sometimes I try to keep it at a minimum. I have found that taking hot baths with magnesium salt (Epsom Salt) is helpful. In fact, when I have bad pain...I take a hot bath and a pain pill. When I have moderate pain, I use a warm heating pad. I'm using those moist heat ones...the kind you put in the microwave. They work better for me than the traditional kind.

Back to the doctor and PFD therapy for me. I guess I wasn't diligent enough with my home device and my muscles are back into spasm again!! I decided to go back to my once a week at the doctor for pf therapy and still use the device in between visits. Not the miracle I was hoping for. :(

Hi everyone-has anyone had success with other forms of PFD physical therapy other than biofeedback? I am too swollen for that, they can't get the probe inside. I had internal trigger point too, but that caused swelling and "lumps" up inside. I am about to start back this week after finishing dmso, and they are just doing external nerve stimulation per my Dr. I was just wondering if any of you had other techiniques and what worked or didn't work for you.

NSS-"PFD" is pelvic floor dysfunction. It was explained to me as what can be caused by your bladder being in pain for a long time. As a result of the bladder pain, the muscles that surround your vagina and the rectal area are in a constant state of tension, as they are trying to "guard" the bladder. This causes the muscles to shorten and spasm, sometimes making insertion (sex, tampons) and even going to the bathroom painful. hope that helps
