Well I hope I didn't scare people off by the title.
Those of us who feel well enough to exercise, let's get our butts moving!
Its February 1st and as promised the challenge begins. I believe we should all try and get in at least three days of cardio this week.
I am planning on using one of my step tapes ( 40 minutes in total ) and then walking on my treadmill this evening ( during Coronation Street!) for thirty minutes. My step tape incorporates light stepping and light weight work, so I will kill two birds with one stone.
What are your plans today?

I've just gotten back into exercising after a 2month break. I usually go to the gym but when my husband works shifts it is hard for me to get there after work. I recently bought Leslie Sansone's WaLK Away the Pounds 3 Mile walk. Its a really good workout for me, takes about 40 minutes, I also got a new tape called Tread Moves which uses your treadmill and weights. It is a very challenging workout but you can modify any of it. I have done step classes for years and I hope to get back to them soon, but I get dizzy from the Elmiron so I'm a little hesitant, don't want to fall off. Anyway keep motivated, we can do it.

Hey Tango! I have all of the Treadmove Tapes - which one are you starting off with? I am starting slowly as I have not exercised for two months as I got use to the Elmiron - it made me dizzy too. Just finished a Step Tape ( Cathe Friedrich Body Max - with tons of modifications!) We can do this!

Way to go Imustpee! Those are great statistics! By the way my name is Karen, (aka cybersis). I was wondering do you feel better because of your daily walks? I have just started exercising again ( my fourth day ) and I feel better. I have a bit more energy and my mind seems to be clearer. Bladder is about the same but I feel better about myself. Keep up the great work guys!

I'm in for the challenge.
I do pilates or yoga daily and if the weather is cooperating I head out for a walk, usually an hour or so, again all depends on weather. My bladder just hates the cold.
Where do you get these walking tapes. I would like to look into getting one. Are they just music or does someone talk as you walk to keep you going ?
Need to look into this low carb diet. I'm craving sugar real bad. I think more a yeast overgrowth more than anything.
Time to detox !

I too have the "Leslie Sansone" tapes. I recently bought her "Walkblaster" with DVD's. I have not done it for a while, but when I do it, I do enjoy it. Each DVD is longer than the first and also includes something that wasn't on the one before. The first dvd is titled "Slim & Thin-it is about 31 minutes long, the 2nd dvd is called "Shape & Firm" and it is about 32 minutes long and the 3rd dvd is called "Sculpt & Burn" and it is about 42 minutes long. The package also comes with 2 weight balls. You can check this out on Leslie Sansone's website www.lesliesansone.com.

Kim ....
I checked out the website. Do you get just the dvd's and have to buy that "round" thing or is it included ?
Looks interesting and would be good for me on those days it is just too cold outside to walk.

Off to see a physio-therapist on how to build upper body strength. Like I have none. I am a twig! I told my husband to take my car so it will force me to walk to my appointment. Just hope I don't have to pee on the way. No water for me for a couple of hours -- need to shut the bladder down so I can get there.
I am proud of everyone! Keep up the good work. I use an elliptical trainer and walk on a treadmill every other day. Would love to do every day, but stupid bladder doesn't like that.
Is the music on the exercise tapes motivational?
I also put a disposable heating pad on the underoo's before walking outside. It keeps my pelvic muscles from freezing and then I don't feel the sensation to pee as much. Playtex sells them.

Imustpee, you're really doing great! -Setting the bar pretty high for the rest of us though!
My plan is to keep up the daily hiking, eliminate snacking, and watch my portions at the table. My goal is to lose at least five pounds each month and be back to a reasonable size by mid April.

i went ice skating on friday for about an hour without too much pain.
and i walk several miles a day because i have no car. does that count?
Exercise is just agonizing for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? The elliptical machine hurts as bad as treadmill. At one point I was doing the 2.5 miles in 30 min, 5 times/week, but I would just go home and get in the fetal position afterwards due to the pain and fatigue. I am afraid of swimming because of UTI and infection. Yoga doesn’t hurt quite as bad, but it doesn’t provide the cardio.
Before the CPP came along I loved to inline skate -- it made me so happy :) I wish I could find a way to do it on a perfectly smooth surface and not fall. I shouldn't even think about it -- maybe when there is a cure for IC

Hi everyone,
I have been working out since Nov. Weights five times a week plus 30 mins of cardio at the gym. Then pilates class three times a week. Now Im going to start a running program in the mornings. I still haven't lost any weight....ugh..Im not overweight it's just im four sizes bigger now than I was before my baby two years ago. I lost the first fifteen pounds by the time he was six weeks, those last fifteen pounds have been hanging on now for two years. I stick to the IC diet and really don't eat alot.
For example;
Today I had two boiled eggs for breakfast - 9am
4 ounces of turkey and 2 ounces of cheese - 11am
garden salad without dressing - 1pm
5 crackers with peanut butter - 4pm
6 inch personal veggie pizza with half the tomato sauce and feta cheese - 6pm
IS this too much for me? this is a typical day...I have no patence for counting calories. I never drink my calories, just water. You would think that even cutting out juice, fruit, alcohol, pop I would lose some weight. I have tried weight watchers, atkins ect...nothing budges. Before the baby I would litterally eat out everyday and drink up to 10 drinks a weekend at the bar such as white russians ect....in university. That was a ton of calories...I had mcdonalds every day or wendys ect.
This is just not fair...lol.
Help me. Im doing a food journal starting today and going to a deitition to help with the IC diet. So Im going to ask her for some tips..I know she is going to look at me like im crazy but I really want to lose some weight. I have some great clothes that are still in style that I can only get one leg into....so I really want to try to fit into them.
Anyway I hate this struggle. I swear no matter what I do nothing changes. On a positive note the IC diet is working so at least I don't feel sick. Hmm Im on elavil could that be slowing my metabolism? Also I was always on the birth control pill before the baby and Im not on it now. Could it have sped up my metabolism?

Sounds like you are doing a good amount of exercising and certainly your meals sound light. I wonder if you are getting enough calories for the amount of exercising you are doing. Sometimes your body goes into "starvation mode" if you are exercising regularly and not eating enough food. Have you lost any inches? or maybe a pant size? Sometimes when you first start out with a new program you gain muscle and lose inches but not weight! It's great that you are controlling your IC with diet and some medications. At least this disease has not stopped you from working out! Another thing I know from the Elavil from when I was on it for migraines was that not matter what I did I could not lose weight. It seemed to slow my metabolism from a rabbit to a snail! I exercised and tried to eat right but nothing helped. I stopped it about three years ago and started Weight Watchers. It helped me go from 160 to 125. Unfortuantely lack of exercise and a bit of depression from this condition has upped my weight about 10 pounds and climbing. One of my reasons for starting this thread. Tell us about your meeting with the dietician, maybe some good ideas for all us. Keep up the good work.

Hi, noticed that you were interested in walking tapes from Leslie Samone (?) I was in Zellars yesterday and they had a hugh selection of workout tapes to choose from, there were some from that particular person. They were around $10.00. Also don't know if she is (Leslie that is, I notice you are from Sarnia ) American but there is a Canadian website that I use all the time for ordering workout tapes. It is cksales.com and they are great. I just ordered three more tapes to add to my over 100 tape collection. All costs are in Canadian dollars and they are excellent to deal with. Keep up the great job!

Hi Cybersis
I have the TreadMoves sport conditioning tape. I really enjoy this one it is really challenging. I hope to get some more soon. I'm going to check out the website you suggested. Do you ever use music when you work out on the treadmill? Wondering if you make your own discs or tapes. I take my discman to the gym, I can't workout on the treadmill or stairclimber without my music now. I get so bored, I find watching the TV's boring without the sound. I really enjoy weight training, I mainly use free weights, I like the control of this more than machines. Cables are also my preferred choice. I've worked with a trainer in the past and have a number of weight routines that I use. Do you use the swiss ball at all? They are great.

I have a treadmill at home as well as using the one at the gym. I saved for two years to buy a good treadmill and I have it in my basement near my TV, so at home I watch TV and at the gym I use my own mixed tapes that I make. I have a full set of free weights at home as well as barbells, weightballs, bands and exercise ball. I alternate between the gym and home. The gym when I want some company and at home when my day is just to busy. Another day anothe workout!

I usually walk in the office during my lunch time (8 times around the building plus I go up the stairs) which is 1 mile every day, when I first started doing this, I lost about 20 pounds and 2 dress sizes!
Plus where I work, I take the long way around to the offices that I need to go, so that is extra. I have a pedometer that tells me how many steps that I take daily.

I am not a member of curves but have been a lifetime member of Weight Watchers for two years. Over the past six months I have gained back around 10 pounds and hope these challenges will help me get off my butt and back to exercise. I've heard curves is a great place with good people!

I also am a weight watchers lifetime member. Curves works for me since it is only 30 mins a day I can go during my lunch! It works great for the body and the mind!! :woohoo:

Cybersis...
thanks for the information. I as at Chapters the other day and saw the Leslie Samone tapes and they where $20 plus. Eck. Will check out Zellers today and the website.
Thanks for the information. I went for a 2 hour walk yesterday afternoon it was so nice outside (couple pit stops behind trees). I had the worse day and needed to vent/cry by myself. It worked.
I gave "being a lady" a whole definition on that walk. Good thing it was out in the country. I'm sure if somebody saw me they would have instantly admitted me in the physc ward ! :loco:

Hey ads. I haven't been able to get on an elliptical either. The pool is just one big flare waiting to happen. I know how frustrating it can be!
Based on my personal experience, though, I had to start out really slowly, one of the hardest things for me to accept. I started walking at a leisurely pace about 15 minutes a few days a week. Now I can walk about 45 minutes, but speed walking is still a no, no. I also worked up to being able to ride a stationary bike for an hour 3 times a week--funny, though, I can't ride the recumbant ones because that leads to a flare.
Wishing you well,
Amaris
