Hey everyone, I have sorta a strange question. I was talking to the nurse at the female doctors office, about pain with sex, and she recommended using crisco! :biglaugh: I was like WHAT??? Anyway she said it was the best thing a woman can use for lube. I have alot of allergies and have been having alot of pain with sex. I asked the nurse if the ky was causing me to have IC flare ups and she wasn't sure so she recommended the crisco.
My question is has anyone ever dared to try it? Or ever hear of it?

Can't say that I have ever heard of it, I would just double check that with your doctor. Gotta say it sounds weird :hmm: but who knows it could work......

I would worry about it being something that might break down condoms - but if you don't use them I guess it isn't a concern that way.

Ewwwwwww! Please don't use this...I don't know where she got this idea from...but stay away fom it.

Kim is right...any oil based *items* will break down latex (condoms) and the fact its grease and won't wash away will certainly trap bacteria and either lead to bacteria/germ growth, infections of all sorts (incl UTI and bladder) possibly even yeast infx.

Stay away from Crisco, salad or any kind of oil, grease, vaseline, greasy-creamy lotions and please no food products of any kind.

Try different brands...maybe instead of KY use Astroglide, or see if they make a *sensitive skin* version.

Good Luck! :D

The nurse gave you the worst advice possible. Don't know where she ever got an idea like that!

Yvette's advice is right on the money. Please follow her suggestions.

:biglaugh: I think it is gross myself. I haven't tried it because it sounds too nasty. I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of or tried it. She swears it wasn't a joke. I thought she was joking at first, but she said she was serious as wierd as it sounds.

I disagree. Crisco was recommended to me by the vulvodynia group and it's the only thing I've ever been able to tolerate after developing sensitivity to everything else. 30 seconds after any foreign goop of any sort makes contact with my urethra, I am ON FIRE. Some of you will remember my original post about this, but Crisco didn't sound romantic to me either, but hey a girl does what a girl hasta. Planned this special night, etc. got things going. Put the Crisco on him but then things went awry when suddenly 4 dogs landed in bed with us. Let's just say everyone in the house wanted him. Poor husband is flailing his arms in the dark and I'm trying to defend my territory. We're both hysterical laughing. So word to the wise: put the dogs up if you decide to try this! It doesn't take much Crisco. But put it on him, not you. Then I also try to aim him more to the back and away from my urethra. I've been using Crisco for probably 8 years. Never had an infection from it. In fact the only time I've gotten a UTI was after the botox injections and also after an office nurse cathed me, thus I don't let anyone else cath me anymore. But Crisco put me back in the bedroom again.

WOW!!! I honestly thought the crisco was a joke. The thought of putting lard "down there" kinda freaked me out. All I could think about is frying chicken and how it looks then. I thought for sure it would cause an infection. I have so many allergies. My sex life with my husband almost doesn't exist anymore and I'm about to say hey if it helps, I will try almost anything.
Thank you everyone for your Crisco advice! I guess they had to use something before they invented ky and Astroglide who knows, maybe it was a tub of lard!

I had read in one of my many fertility books when I was married that egg white was a good lube to use, as the sperm could navigate it easily, as it was protein. I personally never tried it, but it was an option....I think. LOL. The crisco commentary reminded me of that. And now I have a picture of a poor guy defending himself from, um, "curious" dogs, lol! Thanks for the chuckle! Sure needed it today!!

Hugs,
Tracey :)

Hey there's not much to laugh about with this illness, so I'm a big believer in grabbing the laugh wherever it presents itself.

Crisco is called "Cream C" by medical personnel and is often recommended by dermatologists as it's very emollient, does not cause acne, does not tend to cause allergies, etc. It's a very neutral, useful cream believe it or not.

Crisco, egg whites ... I'll never be able to look at them again without laughing.

Just like when we went to see the Puppetery of the Penis (don't ask) I'll never eat Kentucky Fried Chicken again ! :toilet:

all of the vulvodynia websites i've looked at have recommended vegetable oil as a lube, and i think crisco would fall undert that same category.

now, it's really bad if you're relying on condoms fro birth control, but if you have another method or are not worried about birth control, i say give it a try!

Does it REALLY work? Does it HURT you? does it make you BURN? those are just some questions i have.. because i used to LOVE having sex and now it just doesnt excite me because it does nothing but hurt me. I'm willing to try anythign if it'll WORK and NOT hurt me. :)

My gyn told me to use Vitamin E, they come in little capsules so if you buy any buy the big bottle because you'll need at least 5 of them depending on your husband size. He said very few people have a problem with them. I was using the KY heating gel and it made me flare for a week.( I should of thought about it before using it). Good luck sweetpea.

I am also a HUGE believer in the use of Crisco for this purpose - but Crisco 100% pure VEGETABLE OIL, not the Crisco SHORTENING that people often think of when they hear Crisco. Um, EEW. PLEASE don't get the two confused!

It was recommended to me by the head of infectious diseases at our University Hospital here, and I've sworn by it ever since. I've been using it for about a year now. Granted, my fiance and I don't use condoms, because I've been on the pill for years, so I don't have any idea what the effect is on condoms. But as my doc explained to me, it actually helps soothe the skin down there and the natural oil and nutrients that are found in the 100% vegetable oil are very good for your skin. I will never go back to KY, Astroglide or anything else. It has eliminated most of the pain I used to feel during sex, and I feel less achey/painful afterwards because of it!

I just looked, out of curiousity, to see if you can use Crisco when using condoms and you definitely should NOT.

My gyn suggested cooking oil as well, and I looked at her and said "WHAT?" LOL no thanks. It's staying in the kitchen cabinet where it belongs.

I dunno I think I'd try anything if I thought it might help me get my sex life back. Being "creative" is fun, but sometimes I just want to be normal.

I gotta agree with you Desolationangel! If they told me to run around the bedroom three times backwards, then stand on my head I'd give it a try!!! Yeah, I hear ya, "creative" can be fun, but damn, sometimes just being good old fashioned, "boring" would be nice! LMAO!!!!!!!!! ;)

I asked my urologist today about the crisco thing and he said it would prolly work but he said that it would be realllly hard to clean up.. so i geuss we should keep that in mind. :).

:bonk: I have to admit, most of the time, when someone says Crisco, I think of shortening not oil. I use them both for cooking and stuff but never imagined using it in the bedroom. The oil makes much more sense than shortening does. Serousily that sounds gross! The vitamin E souds like a good idea. If that fails, I may just try the Crisco thing. I miss sex and I miss good sex, and I am to the point where I will do anything to get it back. I always think of frying chicken when it comes to Crisco, and after hearing about this, I seem to think about what we always hear "tastes like chicken..." now it might... never mind!
Anyway, I hope this thread helps someone.

I was told to try Crisco vegatable oil and did so many years ago by my gynright after I had a hysterectomy. I still have one ovary but that was when I started having problems with dryness. It did help and it really wasn't very hard to clean up afterwards. It is a natural product with no additives. Much of it absorbs into the tissue, much like that of skin lotion you use on your hands.

Now I use Vagisil, KY is too irritating. Astroglide seems to be more of a mess then anything else and I it doesn't last through sex with me. Vagisil is much cheaper then both!

I have heard that you can use Crisco shortening, it too is a vegatable base product. My brother-in-law was told by his doctor to use it for dry, cracked heels. It only takes a small amount and it absorbs into the skin as well. I could see things from Dianne's point of view with putting it on the penis.

I believe sex is very important, not only for our partners but for ourselves as well. I will always be willing to try anything to be able to sex with my husband. I think before you try anything you should consult your gyn or uro. But I say if it isn't going to put you into a flare or hurt you in any other way, Why not try it! You might just get your sex life back!!
