I'm not sure I'm writting this in it's correct category, I know pyridium isn't an antibiotic!! Anyway, Pyridium is supposed to help with the pain in my bladder but it doesn't help me at all!! I've been soo desperate to get rid of the pain at times that I've taken up to 5 pills at one time and I still feel no difference, it's as if I hadn't taken anything!! Is there anything else I can take that will help?

First off, I am not scolding: I jsut really have to say you should NEVER overdose and take more than what is recommended. Bad, bad things can happen.
Its possible your body just doesn't react the same as someone else. Have you tried Pyridium Tab Plus vs plain Pyridium?
For pain: Perhaps you need pain medication rather than P or P+. Do youhave any pain meds you ccan take? Or what about meds like Elavil?
I think this is something you should really discuss with your doctor. He/she may be able to help you find what is right and schedule the meds so they work best. Sometimes not many meds if one waits until the pain is full throttle. If you get a chance take a look at Dr. Brookoff's article on managing pain with pain meds...it could help (can some one pleae put a link here...TIA!)
Good Luck!!! :D

PS: Have you ruled out bladder and/or Tract infection? I know NOTHING makes me feel better when an infx has settled in....yuck!
Hope you find relief soon! :bunny:

Yvette is right to "sort of scold you" and one of the reasons is that Pyridium taken over time causes retention in some. You sure don't want to start retaining along with current pain. I too would call and ask for another pain relief med. Luck!

I found the pyridium plus worked better for me it helped more with burning and spasms than pain. Although we are all different. Can you talk to your doctor about a pain relief medicine. I do sometimes have to use both.
Hope your feeling better,
Kelly
Pyridium only seems to really, really help me when I have an infection. Works like a charm then, but when it is just a plain old flare it only barely takes the edge off....

Prydium helps me only when the flares aren't out of control!! Last week it didn't even touch the pain and I had an infection. I was just reading in Moldwins book:IC Suvivial Guide about Urised. Wonder if this might help you more. ?? It is also a urinary antiseptic but kills bacteria and relaxes the muscles. Doesn't seem to have the same warnings either. I have never used this but may ask my DR about it. You may want to too!

pyridum plus helps me when I'm flaring but pyridum but did not help at all.

Regarding Urised, I've taken it for a week on three different occasions. The first time, the pain went away completely, then came back when the medicine was gone. The second and third times, it didn't touch the pain at all.
Pyridium Plus...works wonders for me too.

I asked my uro about pyridium plus and she said it's just like taking 2 pyridiums. I think my body is probably used to it, I take it when I have a flare,Isn't it supposed to help with hte pain of the flare-up?, I mean that's what it's for,for bladder pain.

Actually, pyridum plus has less of the pyridum medicine in it (Phenazopridine Hydrocholoide 150mg to the 200mg for the regular pyridum but is also has mild muscle relaxer and narcotic. (Hyoscyamine Hydrobromide .3 mg & Butabarbital Sodium 15 mg.) Not wanting to contradict but have the bottle in my hand. My URo told me he didn't want me to take it as often as the Pyridum. It does help though.

Vicky, pyridium used to work for me back when I had UTI's (but not IC) and now that I have IC it does not do a thing for me at all.
All it does is turn my urine bright orange, it does not help me feel even the slightest bit more comfortable.
Many IC'ers find that pyridium does nothing for them.
Blessings, Lori
