I have my first Cysto/Hydro sheduled at the hospital in two weeks. although my doctor is convinced that I have IC, he says this is a neccessary procedure to have done.
My employer has asked me to be realistic on how much time off I think I will need. And honestly i don't know and wondered if anyone here could share with me their experiences with this procedure and the recovery time it took to get well.
FYI-I work from home and have a laptop that i can take to bed with me, and have worked through flare ups just fine by laying in bed w/my heating pad and working. Maybe I'm overly optimistic but wanted a taste of reality is it too optimisitic to expect to be back to work the the day after the procedure??
Thanks!
Rikki
Everyone is different but I've had 10 hydrodistentions and I usually take the week off from work. I stay in the hospital for 2 days with a 3 way foley catheter (constant irrigation of bladder) in and a PCA. I wouldn't expect that you would be able to work the next day since they will put you under anesthesia and everyone reacts differently to anesthesia.
After mine I would have had to take at least 3 days off, probably. But everyone is different and if you're working from home and can lay down in bed you might even be fine the next day. It varies so much.

I have had over 30 hydros and I think that if you are working at home and can be where you are comfortable, you could probably be working at least several hours a day if you take three or four days off. When I worked in an office, I would schedule the procedure for a Tuesday or Wednesday and return full time the following Monday.

Thank you Donna-Since they didn't ask me what day I'd like to have it and I'm scheduled for a tuesday, I think I will plan to take a couple of days off and then try going at it part time the rest of the week and then full force the following week.

I went back to work the next day. It's a very simple procedure and only takes the doctor about 15-20 mins. Takes them longer to put you under. I had one day were the pain was really bad but that was due to the spams of my bladder from being stretched. Other than that it was very painless

Hi there,
I had my hydro on a Thursday... at the time, I was working full time. I took that day off, the Friday following, and then the weekend. I was going to go back Monday, but my husband asked me to take one more day off. I am asthmatic, and had some wheezing and chest pain left over from the anesthesia, and he wanted to watch me one more day and make sure I was not going to have a full-on asthma attack. But I went back Tuesday. I was glad I took the extra days off -- I was tired from the anesthesia, and very sore all over my body and didn't understand it. Since then I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia as well as IC, so that explained the horrible soreness after being put under. ;)
I think you should be realistic and at least plan for 48 hours of doing nothing...I have had some that after a couple of days felt better and others was in hospital for 3 days, everyone is different and each persons body reacts differently..good luck and I hope it goes well.. :grouphug:

I usually try to have my scheduled on a Friday. Most times, I'm able to go back to work on Monday.
